Your role will primarily be people focused, while helping drive the development of Oportun’s core products.</p> <p> </p> <h3>RESPONSIBILITIES</h3> <ul> <li> <p>Recruit and strong product engineers and future technical leaders</p> </li> <li> <p>Build a strong, high performing teams by driving forming a strong team culture of safety, accountability, and empathy and effectively driving team execution</p> </li> <li> <p>Collaborate with partners in Product, Design, and other engineering leads to drive team vision and strategy - product roadmap, execution and resource plan, and setting priorities</p> </li> <li> <p>Level up the technical skills of your team by reviewing pull requests and technical specs, empowering and leveraging your tech lead, and being able and willing to get your hands dirty and help your team debug issues and ship code when needed</p> </li> <li> <p>Drive strong engineering practices around product development execution, operational excellence in observability, quality, reliability, and developer efficiency</p> </li> <li> <p>Effectively communicate and build alignment up, down and sideways across the organization</p> </li> <li> <p>Be a champion for Diversity and Inclusion by sourcing, hiring, and advocating for a diverse group of engineers</p> </li> <li> <p>Responsible for creating and influencing innovative solutions that meet not only functional, but also performance, scalability and reliability requirements.</p> </li> <li> <p>Highly motivated self-starter who loves ownership and responsibility while working in a collaborative and interdependent team environment.</p> </li> <li> <p>Work with multiple teams of engineers to design, develop, and test major software and systems components using an agile, scrum methodology.</p> </li> <li> <p>Translation of complex functional and technical requirements into detailed execution plans and schedules; manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team by defining, implementing and maintaining a coherent, progressive development strategy for our product line.</p> </li> <li> <p>Management and execution against project plans and delivery commitments</p> </li> <li> <p>Management of departmental resources, staffing, and enhancing and maintaining a best-of-class engineering team</p> </li> <li> <p>Build, Guide and Coach the Scrum Team on how to use Agile practices and principles to deliver high quality products, facilitate and support all scrum Agile ceremonies for the teams as Scrum master.</p> </li> <li> <p>Deliver capabilities using agile practices while also following the Software Development</p> </li> <li> <p>Lifecycle, business process mapping, and various release processes as appropriate to ensure all risk, security, and development requirements are met</p> </li> <li> <p>Ensure the craftsmanship, security, availability, resilience, and scalability of solutions developedby the teams</p> </li> <li> <p>Evolution of the software engineering practice within the organization, including better reporting, tools, and evolution of development methodology</p> </li> <li> <p>Continue to build an effective development organization by developing and managing the group, and conducting performance reviews of team members</p> </li> </ul> <p> </p> <h3>REQUIREMENTS</h3> <ul> <li> <p>12+ years of overall experience in engineering with Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline</p> </li> <li> <p>5+ years of recent management experience, managing more than one team during that time with 15+ team members</p> </li> <li> <p>5+ years of individual contributor engineering experience engineering products with a modern tech stack, preferably Java, REST, Spring Framework, any relational DB, CI/CD in agile environment</p> </li> <li> <p>Demonstrated track record of building and managing high performing product engineering teams in a fast paced, high impact, high growth environment</p> </li> <li> <p>Passion for building and shipping products users love with high quality and speed</p> </li> <li> <p>Passion for career development.
