With more than 130 years of financial experience and over 22,000 partners, we serve the world’s most sophisticated clients using leading technology and exceptional service.Role/ Department:As part of the Custody Tax Operations team, the Tax Consultant is at the centre of International withholding tax processing.Reporting to the Team Manager, the Tax Consultant’s responsibilities will be to ensure that team request, record and manage Northern Trust’s client tax documentation, and accurately identify, process and track tax relief at source or reclaims on behalf of Northern Trusts global client base so as to ensure maximum tax benefits. The role will require responding quickly and professionally to inquiries in an accurate and timely manner and a focus to continually improve the service offered to clients.The key responsibilities of the role include:<ul><li>Take on assigned tasks from the Management group but also has ability to work independently on tasks most of the time.</li><li>Responsible for execution of complex tax processes, where expertise is required to interpret policies, guidelines and/or processes as part of own work, or in support of other Partners.</li><li>Ownership for one or more processes, reports and/or procedures.</li><li>Reviews work of others including review tax breakdowns and/or tax reclaims</li><li>Provide training and control reporting as needed.</li><li>Handle complex queries and refer complicated issues to higher level specialist and or regional tax team as needed</li><li>Perform market analysis as required</li><li>Continuous focus on operational risk and control environment including ensuring procedures are followed and updated regularly, assisting and guiding other Partners as required.</li><li>May be required to attends internal and external operational meetings, taking a lead on behalf of team.</li><li>Be aware of all service level agreements in place</li><li>Research market change and collaborate with other teams to effect that change from an operational tax perspective</li></ul>Skills/ Qualifications:The successful candidate will benefit from having: <ul><li>Strong time-management skills with the ability to effectively prioritise tasks according to their level of urgency and importance.</li><li>Excellent communication (verbal and written) and organisational skills.</li><li>Analytically and procedurally competent, primarily on daily execution.</li><li>Expert in a specific skill set but remains focused primarily on daily execution.</li><li>Technically sound in own area of expertise and has good operational knowledge of other areas within the tax practice.</li><li>Challenges assumptions in order to drive continual improvement.
