Netflix is one of the worlds leading entertainment services, with over 300 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.
The Member Experience API Platform Team builds high-throughput, low-latency API layer that serves key Netflix Member Experience Pages, such as the Homepage and Search, delivering real-time responses to UI clients. Our mission is to provide stable, scalable, and resilient abstractions that empower device teams and dozens of backend domains to deliver seamless, and cohesive experiences to our members.
We are seeking an engineering leader to guide our API Platform team in evolving our architecture, scaling our services, and driving Netflix’s member experience innovation. This leader will partner closely with client engineering, product, backend domains, and platform teams to ensure our APIs remain robust, extensible, and aligned with the needs of Netflix’s global member base.
In this role, you will:
- Lead a team of talented engineers building and evolving the core API platform that powers all member discovery and interaction experiences.
- Drive the architecture, design, and execution of scalable, highly available API services and platform foundations.
- Develop a strategic roadmap for API platform evolution, focusing on extensibility, domain isolation, schema lifecycle management, and high business impact.
- Define and track success metrics for platform adoption, migration from legacy systems, and operational excellence.
- Communicate progress and technical context effectively to stakeholders, partners, and senior leadership.
- Balance platform modernization with legacy support, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal disruption.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and technical excellence within the team.
- Hire, mentor, and grow a diverse, high-performing engineering team.
What we are looking for in you:
- 2–4 years of experience leading backend or platform engineering teams, preferably in distributed systems or API infrastructure.
- Deep technical acumen in designing, building, and operating high-traffic, resilient API platforms.
- Proven ability to drive platform architecture and influence technical direction in a cross-functional environment.
- Experience with schema-driven API development (e.g., GraphQL, DGS), platform extensibility, and service migration strategies.
- Passion for enabling product and client teams through robust, scalable platform abstractions.
- Track record of hiring, mentoring, and growing diverse engineering teams.
- Excellence in communicating technical context and driving alignment among engineers, stakeholders, and leadership.
- Strategic thinker able to connect platform evolution to business and product needs, navigating competing priorities.
- Leadership style that values feedback, empowers others, and fosters innovation without micromanagement.
- BS in Computer Science/Engineering or a related discipline.
