Our Fraud Prevention Tools team plays a critical role in protecting our platform and users from financial fraud. We’re looking for an experienced and technically strong Engineering Manager to lead a cross-functional engineering team dedicated to building scalable, intelligent, and reliable fraud prevention infrastructure. This role is ideal for someone who combines strong technical depth, people management experience, and a product-focused mindset. You’ll work on complex systems involving high-throughput data processing, rule engines, and real-time decision systems while also managing and mentoring a team of engineers. What you’ll get to do <ul> <li>Lead the design and development of fraud prevention platforms, including rule-based systems, anomaly detection engines, and real-time alerting pipelines.</li> <li>Collaborate with senior engineers on architecture decisions for large-scale, distributed systems that process millions of financial transactions daily.</li> <li>Oversee backend development primarily using Java, Spring Boot, and SQL-based data stores, while maintaining service scalability, performance, and reliability.</li> <li>Ensure adherence to software engineering best practices including testing, code reviews, observability, and incident management.</li> <li>Lead a team of 5 to 10 engineers, ensuring timely delivery of projects and operational excellence.</li> <li>Translate strategic goals into clear technical roadmaps, sprint plans, and measurable outcomes (OKRs).</li> <li>Provide regular feedback, mentoring, and coaching to team members, promoting technical growth and accountability.</li> <li>Foster a culture of ownership, trust, collaboration, and continuous improvement.</li> <li>Partner with fraud analysts, data scientists, and risk operations to develop internal tools and decisioning capabilities.</li> <li>Work closely with Product Owners and other Engineering Managers to align technical priorities with business goals.</li> <li>Ensure transparency and alignment with cross-functional stakeholders, escalating blockers as needed.</li> <li>Design systems with high availability, redundancy, and disaster recovery strategies in mind.</li> <li>Drive efforts to improve incident response, monitoring, and system observability.</li> <li>Optimize fraud detection performance using advanced analytics, caching, consistent hashing, and partitioning techniques.</li> </ul> To succeed in this role, you should have <ul> <li>8+ years of backend engineering experience, including 2+ years in a team/tech lead or management role.</li> <li>Solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, system design, and microservices architecture.</li> <li>Strong proficiency in Java and experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.).</li> <li>Exposure to fraud detection, financial transaction monitoring, or similar risk systems is a big plus.</li> <li>Familiarity with load balancing, rate limiting, caching, and horizontal scaling techniques.</li> <li>Comfortable breaking down ambiguous business problems into concrete engineering deliverables.</li> <li>Experience working with or leading remote/distributed teams effectively.</li> <li>BSc in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field</li> </ul> Generic Skills <ul> <li>Problem-solving: Ability to assess complex problems, find solutions, and make sound decisions.</li> <li>Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation and stakeholder reporting.</li> <li>Adaptability: Able to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment, adjusting strategies as needed.</li> <li>Attention to Detail: Meticulous in documenting technical requirements and ensuring all aspects of a project are accounted for.</li> </ul> Supervisory skills <ul> <li>Team Management: Experience in managing and mentoring engineers, ensuring team growth and performance.</li> <li>Resource Allocation: Ability to assess bandwidth and manage resource distribution to optimize team performance.</li> <li>Feedback: Conduct regular performance reviews, providing constructive feedback and fostering a growth-oriented environment.</li> <li>Stakeholder Management: Lead project status reviews, manage expectations, and ensure smooth communication between teams and leadership.</li> </ul> What we can offer you <ul> <li><a href="https://moniepoint.com/culture">Culture</a> - We put our people first and prioritize the well-being of every team member.
