We are seeking an experienced Java Engineer with strong expertise in IBM Sterling Order Management System (OMS) and Sterling Intelligent Promising (SIP) to join our crew! The role combines backend development and product extension work, enabling intelligent fulfilment, sourcing optimisation, and seamless integration across order channels. You will partner with functional configuration experts and business teams to translate complex fulfilment logic into scalable, maintainable Java components — supporting both Sterling OMS core flows and the SIP decision engine.Please note: This is a six month contract that sits outside IR35. You will be required to work in Paddington 2-3 days a week.We are looking for someone who is a: <ul><li>Hands-on engineer with a deep technical understanding of Sterling OMS and SIP.</li><li>Comfortable collaborating with both technical and functional teams — bridging configuration and customisation.</li><li>Analytical and detail-oriented, with strong debugging and optimisation skills.</li><li>Enthusiastic about improving automation, integration, and reliability in fulfilment systems.</li><li>Able to work in complex enterprise environments, balancing speed and quality.</li></ul>Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Design, develop, and maintain custom Java components that extend IBM Sterling OMS and SIP functionality.</li><li>Implement and customise workflows, sourcing rules, and fulfilment logic that determine how and where orders are fulfilled.</li><li>Integrate OMS and SIP with external systems and data sources via APIs, queues, and event-driven interfaces.</li><li>Enhance inventory visibility and sourcing optimisation through SIP configuration and Java-based customisation.</li><li>Develop and maintain automated test frameworks (Cucumber/Java) for validation of order flows and sourcing outcomes.</li><li>Support continuous integration and delivery pipelines, contributing to the migration from Jenkins to GitHub Actions.</li><li>Troubleshoot performance, integration, and workflow issues within Sterling OMS and SIP environments.</li><li>Collaborate with functional configuration teams to align custom code with business rules and system configuration.</li></ul>Core Technical Skills<ul><li>Java (Core and Enterprise) — solid, hands-on engineering experience.</li><li>XML, XSLT, JSON, SQL — for data handling, configuration, and integration.</li><li>Sterling OMS — deep understanding of architecture, workflows, data models, and extensibility points.</li><li>Sterling Intelligent Promising (SIP) — working knowledge of configuration, sourcing logic, and integration with OMS.</li><li>Cucumber (Java) or equivalent test automation tools.</li><li>CI/CD: Jenkins and GitHub Actions for automated build, test, and deployment.</li><li>Version control: Git/GitHub.</li></ul>Desirable Skills<ul><li>Experience with SIP features such as real-time inventory availability, promise logic, and capacity constraints.</li><li>Familiarity with API-based orchestration between OMS, SIP, and external fulfilment or inventory systems.</li><li>Exposure to containerised deployments (Docker/Kubernetes) and cloud hosting environments (Azure or AWS).</li><li>Understanding of monitoring, alerting, and observability tools (New Relic, PagerDuty).</li><li>Experience with agile delivery and collaboration across distributed teams. </li></ul>
