A Day in the Life

The CEO Communications & Operations team defines, leads, and executes the strategy to raise CEO visibility and reputation around the globe, while connecting with, aligning and inspiring employees and key stakeholders in a way that drives execution of the Medtronic strategy.

In this highly visible role, you will have the opportunity to manage select CEO engagements and build relationships with strategic partners across the Global Communications function and the company, at large. We operate in a fast-moving, highly dynamic environment, while creating high-quality work in the name of the CEO, so attention to detail and a relentless commitment to excellence is a must.

This role will be hybrid in-office and based in our Fridley, MN office.

Main Duties

  • Reporting to the Vice President of CEO Communications & Operations, partners closely with other team members and business partners to understand, prioritize, and deliver communications focused on specific, complex topics that drive the Medtronic strategy.

  • Stays informed on the latest trends and best practices in executive communications, while also bringing forward new approaches to continuously enhance the performance and impact of CEO communications at Medtronic.

  • Directly manages the creation and implementation of multiple forms of strategic communication activities, programs and content guided by the Medtronic Mission and overall business strategy that promote, enhance, and protect the organizations reputation to both internal and external audiences.

  • Crafts written communications (letters, speeches, social media, etc.), presentations, and other communications materials for multi-channel use. Responsibilities may include researching topics, fact- checking, writing and editing, presentation development and distribution of content via CEO channels (email, social, intranet, etc.). 

  • Owns the preparation and execution of select internal and external speaking engagements and strategic meetings involving the CEO. Collaborates with initiative owners to understand and influence goals for engagements and target audience; coordinate and confirm logistics; conduct necessary research to adequately prepare the CEO for meetings; and create all necessary support/prep materials for the CEO, including drafting speaking notes, presentations, speeches, FAQs, etc. 

  • Coordinates with teams across the enterprise to help execute CEO-hosted engagements/events (e.g., site visits, leadership meetings, external events). This includes helping coordinate meeting logistics, event planning, content creation, writing various communications to support the events, and maintaining intranet pages, ensuring event content stays timely and relevant.

  • Collaborates and builds partnerships with key teams across the enterprise – including Global, Regional, Functional and Operating Unit Communications and business colleagues – to ensure visibility, engagement and coordination on projects as needed.

  • Supports, as needed, the management of CEO’s external social channels including LinkedIn.

  • Supports CEO Communications & Operations monthly/quarterly updates for all engagements – tracking focus by stakeholder, activities completed/underway and impact.

  • Incorporates feedback mechanisms and metrics into communication plans, and implements changes based on key findings that increase effectiveness.

Must Haves (Min Requirements)

  • Bachelors Degree and 4+ years of communications, journalism and/or marketing experience OR advanced degree and 2+ years of experience

Nice to Haves

  • Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills

  • Microsoft Office suite prowess with an emphasis in PowerPoint and overall tech savviness

  • Highly organized, with off-the-charts attention to detail

  • Executive presence and ability to interact with and influence those at various levels in the organization 

  • Self-motived and capable of working independently against hard deadlines and managing multiple projects at once

  • A team player with a roll-up-your-sleeves attitude and willingness to learn and do new things

  • Ability to flex and work effectively in both hybrid and in-person settings

  • Experience developing and executing multi-faceted communications plans, including outlining strategies, programs, and channels to accomplish a clear set of objectives

  • Experience working in a variety of mediums, including live presentations, virtual meetings, social media, and other digital platforms.

  • Project management experience with proven ability to manage multiple priorities and to execute and coordinate projects efficiently and effectively; adjust to shifting priorities.

  • Experience in successfully navigating and executing initiatives in a global, matrixed, corporate environment.

  • Experience working with all levels of employees and leaders across an organization, including the c-suite and executive team.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with discretion.

  • Experience in working with diverse, cross-functional teams.

  • Experience with Teams, Yammer, Zoom, Eloqua, and SharePoint

  • Excellent customer service to internal clients; follows through on commitments.

  • Business acumen – understanding of Medtronic and the healthcare industry landscape is a major plus.

  • Collaborative work style.

  • Strong relationship-building and influence management skills. 

  • Resourcefulness, flexibility, and ability to work in ambiguous situations.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$82,400.00 - $123,600.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
