A Day in the Life
The Medtronic Diabetes Operating Unit is on a mission to be best in class in both our major portfolio of products (Our multiple daily injection (MDI) solutions and our Automated Insulin Delivery (AID) algorithms and solutions). Our goal is to give people with Diabetes a choice in the treatment approach that is right for them and to meet them where they are. To that end, we have a long list of exciting and high priority programs. This will be a key role bridging the systems architecture, design, integration and system performance characterization.Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
Contributes to system architecture and leads system Designs and characterization of our complex products.
Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with firmware, and hardware engineers in the planning, design, development of our products with focus on characterization and risk mitigation for low level hardware algorithms.
Contributes to user needs and system level requirements; analyzes system capabilities to identify and mitigate product and program risks.
Works early in the development process to build prototypes and resolve integration issues of the products.
Presents integration plans and risk mitigations and collaborates with R&D leaders to remove program obstacles.
Mentors the technical experts to grow into multi-dimensional experts (HW, SW, Cloud, Security, etc.)
TECHNICAL SPECIALIST CAREER STREAM:
An individual contributor with responsibility in our technical functions to advance existing technology or introduce new technology and therapies. Formulates, delivers and/or manages projects assigned and works with other stakeholders to achieve desired results. May act as a mentor to colleagues or may direct the work of other lower level professionals. The majority of time is spent delivering R&D, systems or initiatives related to new technologies or therapies – from design to implementation - while adhering to policies, using specialized knowledge and skills.
Autonomy: Recognized technical authority and innovator within the organization in field of expertise.
Plans R&D or system projects or strategic functional initiatives and recommends technological application projects / solutions to accomplish medium-term to long-range objectives.
Organizational Impact: Contributes to the design of new products, processes, standards, or operational plans based on business strategy with a direct impact on functional area for the business unit.
Influences business decisions made by leadership.
Establishes operational plans for job area with long-range impact on results.
Integrates critical information requiring expert knowledge in field of expertise.
Leverages technical breadth and depth to set, review and validate product and technology goals/roadmap for a business unit.
Innovation and Complexity: Faces problems that are complex, requiring broad-based consideration of variables that impact multiple areas of the organization.
Develops solutions which are novel and unique and drawing upon best practices based on expertise.
Writes technical papers and/or patents; Fosters technical innovation.
Expected to guide or lead business unit in new technical directions.
Communication and Influence: Serves as a principal spokesperson internally related to subject matter expertise pertaining to its policies, plans, and objectives, new technological / technical research, functional thought leadership and other significant advancements.
Uses influence, negotiation, and persuasion to achieve objectives.
Leadership and Talent Management: Provides guidance, coaching and training to other employees within business unit.
Typically manages large, complex initiatives of strategic importance to the business unit, involving large cross-functional teams.
Must Have Requirements:
Bachelors degree and 15+ years of relevant experience
or, advanced degree and 13+ years of relevant experience
