Position Description

The Senior SDLC Governance Lead is responsible for overseeing the governance of software development processes within a healthcare organization. This role ensures that all technology initiatives comply with regulatory standards (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH), internal policies, and industry best practices. The position plays a critical role in aligning IT development with clinical, operational, and compliance goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Governance & Compliance:

  • Develop and enforce SDLC governance frameworks tailored to healthcare regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, FDA (for medical software), and other relevant standards.

  • Lead internal audits and support external audits related to software development and data security.

Process Leadership:

  • Define and continuously improve SDLC processes across Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid environments.

  • Collaborate with IT, clinical, and compliance teams to ensure alignment of development practices with patient safety and data integrity.

  • Establish and monitor KPIs for SDLC performance and compliance specifically DORA and SPACE type metrics

Risk & Policy Management:

  • Identify and mitigate risks related to software development and deployment in healthcare settings.

  • Maintain and update SDLC policies, procedures, and documentation.

  • Serve as a liaison between legal, compliance, and IT teams for governance-related decisions.

Training & Communication:

  • Provide training and mentorship to development teams on SDLC governance and healthcare compliance.

  • Communicate governance expectations and updates to stakeholders across departments.

  • Lead governance reviews and present findings to senior leadership and regulatory bodies.

Minimum Requirements

  • Typically requires 10+ years of relevant experience

Critical Skills

  • 7+ years in software development or IT governance, with at least 3 years in a healthcare environment.

  • Exlerience leading cross-functional initiatives with a deep command of SDLC processes across multiple business units.

  • Proven experience implementing SDLC governance frameworks in regulated industries.

  • Deep understanding of compliance and regulatory frameworks.

  • Proficiency in tools like JIRA, Confluence, ServiceNow, and GRC platforms.

Additional Skills

  • Familiarity with healthcare IT systems (e.g., EHR/EMR, PACS, HL7, FHIR).

  • Software development or IT governance in a healthcare environment preferred

  • Deep understanding of healthcare compliance and regulatory frameworks.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Ability to analyze complex systems and recommend governance improvements.

Education

  • Bachelors degree in computer science, information systems, or other related field (or equivalent experience)

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKessons pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations.
