You will build and run our fully managed cloud service, contribute directly to our self-managed offering, and make improvements to our internal operational systems. We are looking for a versatile, customer-centric engineer who can take charge of some of the hardest problems in our infrastructure. Projects in this space include (but are no means limited to!): developing rock-solid Kubernetes operators, making our continuous deployment pipeline silky smooth, securing and deploying MCP frontends to our database, hardening our billing pipeline, optimizing binpacking, developing our self-managed Helm chart, and expanding our offering into new clouds. This role will be required to attend ≥ 3 onsites in NYC per year.  Responsibilities <ul> <li>Own and operate our managed cloud, ensuring security, availability, and performance for our SaaS product.</li> <li>Automate and streamline operations: write database orchestration logic, maintain robust CI pipelines, and bring order to the intersection points between cloud infra and business operations.</li> <li>Contribute to our self-managed offering that enables customers to deploy Materialize in their cloud of choice.</li> <li>Debug and resolve complex distributed cloud issues—from tricky network glitches to Kubernetes operator quirks and third-party integrations.</li> </ul> About You <ul> <li>You have 5+ years of software engineering experience.</li> <li>You are impact oriented, excited to ramp up in new areas, and comfortable with navigating ambiguity.</li> <li>You have strong experience with at least one cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure) and at least one infrastructure-as-code tool (Terraform, Pulumi, etc.).</li> <li>You possess a growth mindset, always looking to expand your skills and capabilities.</li> <li>Youre a clear communicator and enjoy collaborating closely across teams.</li> <li>You enjoy taking ownership of large problems, and have a track record of leading successful cross-cutting projects.</li> </ul> Bonus Points <ul> <li>Experience with GCP and/or Azure.</li> <li>Experience operating production databases or managing other critical systems.</li> <li>Willingness to participate in our voluntary on-call rotation</li> </ul> SALARY RANGE: $164,050 - 250,000 + Equity<div>The salary range provided in this job description should not be considered a guarantee or commitment.
