<h3>Company Description</h3>The <a href="https://www.yoctoproject.org/about/project-overview/">Yocto Project</a> is an open source collaboration project that provides templates, tools and methods to help you create custom Linux-based systems for embedded system deployments in connected edge devices, servers, or virtual environments, regardless of the hardware architecture.<h3>Job Description</h3>About the RoleThe Yocto Project is seeking an experienced, community-minded LTS Maintainer to take over maintenance of its Long-Term Stable (LTS) releases, beginning with the upcoming Yocto Project 6.0 LTS release in April 2026.This is a critical role that ensures long-term stability, security, and support for the Yocto Project’s LTS branches. You’ll work closely with the current maintainer during a transition phase and ultimately own the process of delivering quarterly (or more frequent) point releases.If you’re a long-time Yocto/OpenEmbedded contributor with deep technical skills and a passion for open source sustainability, we’d love to hear from you.Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Maintain Core Yocto LTS Layers: bitbake, openembedded-core, meta-yocto, and yocto-docs.</li><li>Monitor and Backport Fixes: Review submitted patches, audit master and stable branches for fixes, and queue appropriate patches for build/test.</li><li>Release Management: Plan and coordinate LTS dot releases, including release notes, build monitoring, test result review, and scheduling.</li><li>Security and Quality Assurance: Track and assess CVEs, run tools like cve-check, and publish results.</li><li>Community Engagement: Participate in mailing lists, collaborate with contributors, and maintain documentation and planning materials.</li></ul><h3>Qualifications</h3>Required Experience:<ul><li>Strong familiarity with Git</li><li>Open Source development background, ideally in Yocto/OpenEmbedded</li><li>Excellent communication via email and IRC</li><li>Python and shell scripting skills</li><li>Understanding of software security issues (assessment, handling, mitigation)</li><li>Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a distributed community</li></ul>Preferred Qualifications:<ul><li>Experience with:<ul><li>Yocto Project Bugzilla</li><li>Yocto Project Autobuilder</li><li>Patchwork</li></ul></li><li>Member of OpenEmbedded</li><li>5+ years of Yocto/OpenEmbedded development</li><li>Long-term software maintenance experience</li></ul><h3>Additional Information</h3>Work Environment<ul><li>Fully remote role with preference for candidates in EU or EST time zones</li><li>Collaborative team environment with global contributors and stakeholders</li><li>Reports to program leadership and works closely with technical maintainers, engineers, and governance representatives</li></ul>Why Join Us?
