We will continue to break down our monolith in favor of microservices that service our mobile clients today. You will be working alongside our Architecture and Product teams to move fast as we expand Life360 globally.</p> <p>Together, we will build systems that are strong and reliable to uphold a heavy load, yet malleable to fit many product demands. The compensation package includes a wide range of medical, dental, vision, financial, and other benefits, as well as equity.</p> <h3>What You’ll Do</h3> <ul> <li>Providing technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to engineers across multiple teams.</li> <li>Collaborating closely with Engineering Managers, Director of Engineering, and Staff Engineers to define and execute the technical direction for various projects in the Revenue Organization focussing on Experiments, International Expansion, and Payments.  </li> <li>Ensuring effective communication and collaboration between multiple departments </li> <li>Being hands-on with writing code where needed to support teams and projects.Create new Spring Java micro services to break down our existing PHP monolith or support new product features</li> <li>Create new API gateways to enable external integrations</li> <li>Horizontally scale our system to handle another 10+ billion events per day</li> <li>Monitor health, suggest improvements for and deploy your own services</li> <li>Example: Build the next generation of our event streaming architecture to handle billions of events per day storing up to trillions of events in cold storage</li> <li>Example: Build a platform to support Machine Learning model processing to power predictive features in Life360</li> <li>Leverage AI to build next generation test automation to validate our API</li> <li>Mentor other developers who are trying to grow</li> <li>Build technical specs with other Staff engineers and approve technical designs for Senior engineers</li> <li>Handle on call rotation and address live incidents</li> </ul> <h3>What We’re Looking For</h3> <ul> <li>Bachelors in Computer Science, Engineering, related field or equivalent practical experience</li> <li>8+ years of experience programming in Java, PHP, Python, or other formal programming language </li> <li>Expert level experience managing medium to large scale deployments on AWS (~5000 instances, 50+ accounts)</li> <li>Expert level experience with Infrastructure as code tools: Terraform, CloudFormation; config management/provisioning tools: Ansible, Chef, etc.</li> <li>Strong Kubernetes experience deploying and running at scale (10k+ containers)</li> <li>Strong Build / Automation / CI/CD experience</li> <li>Proficient in multi-threaded design and implementation</li> <li>Database knowledge is a plus to have</li> <li>Excellent interpersonal skills with a highly collaborative working style.
