The Maritime Systems Division of the Leidos Defense Group is seeking a highly capable Systems Engineer with a deep background in undersea operations, unmanned systems integration, and cross-functional technical leadership to support maritime projects, including the development and testing of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). The ideal candidate will bring substantial experience working with multi-disciplinary teams on subsea system integration, field deployment, and technical coordination for high-priority defense and ocean engineering missions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation including system requirements, CONOPS, interface control documents, and operations manuals.
  • Conduct trade studies to assess design alternatives and recommend optimal solutions for mission-critical systems.
  • Specify, integrate, and evaluate sensors, control assemblies, electrical components, underwater cabling, and rack-mounted systems for subsea and surface maritime platforms.
  • Review and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and cable wiring diagrams.
  • Support mechanical and electrical assembly of prototype systems, both in laboratory and marine environments.
  • Create test plans and procedures; support and execute lab and open-water test events.
  • Conduct system-level electronic testing, including digital and analog circuits, signal processing, and power systems.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues during testing; perform root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Provide end-to-end field support, including mobilization, demobilization, at-sea system operations, and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams, customers, suppliers, and stakeholders.
  • Prepare and present design review materials and technical briefings to internal and external audiences.
  • Support occasional travel and work at remote locations, including shipboard environments

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in engineering, ocean engineering, or a related technical field, with 4–8 years of relevant experience; equivalent military or operational experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Experience supporting the integration and operation of electro-mechanical and electrical systems in maritime or mission-critical environments.
  • Proficient in the use of electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and signal generators.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to lead or collaborate in diverse, cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Physically capable of lifting equipment, climbing ladders, and working in confined marine environments.
  • Active TS//SCI security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in maritime systems, ocean engineering, or undersea technology programs.
  • Operational or project experience with autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), or manned submersibles.
  • Familiarity with underwater connectors, fiber optic telemetry, and acoustic communication systems.
  • Hands-on field experience supporting integration and operation of electrical and sensor systems in subsea or shipboard environments.

Experience coordinating with military, government, or defense stakeholders in a technical or operational capacity.
