Staff Software Engineer (Backend AI Voice Agent Team)

Omnichannel Product Groups mission is to empower front-office teams to accelerate deal closures, proactively resolve customer issues, and personalize interactions through an AI-first omnichannel platform. This role is ideal for a technical leader who can scale an AI voice platform that supports thousands of reps and millions of conversations reliably. You’ll work at the intersection of infrastructure, AI, and real-time communications to integrate voice-enabled AI agents into persona-based workflows across support, sales, and success. This is a chance to shape how generative AI and voice interactions power the next generation of customer engagement.

As a Staff Engineer on the AI Voice Agent team at HubSpot, you’ll do many things— and you likely already have experience doing some of them in the past. We are looking for people who:

• Have a long track record of experience delivering high-value, high-impact, cross-team projects. Staff Engineers are one of the most senior individual contributors at HubSpot; they are leaders that continually strive to raise the bar for the engineering organization as a whole, and are expected to help drive the product vision forward via strong collaboration skills and hands-on coding.
• Have a thirst for technical challenges implemented within secure, compliant systems. We leverage technologies such as Java, WebSockets, HBase, Vitess, Kafka, GraphQL and Dropwizard. We’re not necessarily looking for someone who is an expert in a specific technology, but someone who is well-versed in engineering principles and eager to leverage them when running toward the problems that we face. 
• Experience designing and scaling real-time communication systems using WebSockets, programmable voice platforms (e.g., Twilio, WebRTC), and low-latency media pipelines. 
• Experience with Generative AI applications (such as LLMs, Agents, Image Generation, Langchain, etc.) and experience working as part of a platform team; bonus points for experience developing AI Agents and/or Generative AI infrastructure.
• Comfortable leading cross-functional efforts to integrate AI voice agents with customer agents and enhance persona-based workflows—such as support, sales, and success.
• Wish to stay hands-on in all technical aspects while leading by example through collaborations with cross-functional and internal stakeholders.
• Have a history of developing solutions to problems that have had an outsized impact on a large organization’s business goals.
• Provide strategic direction for major projects.
• Regularly mentor and teach engineers in their areas of expertise.
• Demonstrate pragmatic decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
