This is not traditional backend work—you’ll build the </span><b>cognitive substrate</b><span> that allows agents to reason, remember, act, and adapt on behalf of users. </span></div><div><br /></div><div><span>We’re looking for someone who thrives in ambiguous, emerging spaces—someone who has built large-scale distributed systems </span><b>and</b><span> worked hands-on with </span><b>agentic AI architectures</b><span> (e.g., RAG pipelines, memory systems, policy engines). Your work will directly power Highspot’s most strategic AI roadmap.</span></div><h3>What Youll Do</h3><ul><li><br /></li><div><b>Architect AI Agent Infrastructure</b></div><li>Design agent runtime environments that orchestrate long-running tasks, decisions, and tools.</li><li>Build modular systems for agent memory, contextual state handling, and secure API actions.</li><li>Integrate retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), multi-agent planning, and vector store reasoning.</li><div><b>Scale Core Systems</b></div><li>Own the backend architecture behind Deal Intelligence pipelines.</li><li>Ensure low-latency data access across MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Kafka, and Solr clusters.</li><li>Define and meet scalability, uptime, observability, and security goals.</li><div><b>Collaborate Across ML, Product, and UX</b></div><li>Work closely with ML engineers to productionize agent behaviors.</li><li>Integrate securely with Highspot’s permissioning, audit, and action layers.</li><li>Partner with product designers and PMs to co-create novel agent UX flows.</li><div><b>Drive Quality, Reliability, and Incident Learning</b></div><li>Lead postmortem reviews and build internal tools for debug-ability and traceability.</li><li>Evolve our LLMOps playbooks and safety guards for scalable deployment.</li></ul><h3>Your Background</h3><ul><li>8+ years experience in backend systems development, including 3+ years in tech lead capacity.</li><li>Proven track record building distributed systems at scale (Kafka, Kubernetes, AWS, async eventing).</li><li>Strong system design skills across stateless orchestration, caching, multi-tenant scale.</li><li>Experience working with AI agent infrastructure (LangChain, Semantic Kernel, Haystack, etc.).</li><li>Comfort designing tool-use protocols, memory chains, or agent routing logic.</li><li>Excellent communicator and collaborator across product, design, ML, and infrastructure teams.</li></ul><h3>Strong Candidates May Also</h3><ul><li>Experience with <b>agent evaluation frameworks</b> (e.g., LLM-as-a-judge, synthetic evals, golden sets).</li><li>Built multi-agent or recursive reasoning systems.</li><li>Familiarity with observability for LLM behavior: hallucination detection, trace spans, vector drift.</li><li>Ruby or Typescript proficiency in production environments.</li><li>Past work in sales productivity, CRM, or workflow automation domains.</li></ul><h3>Why This Team, Why Now</h3><ul><li>Deal Intelligence is Highspot’s fastest-growing AI initiative.
