We are looking for a lead instructor with strong front-end and back-end development experience to play a key role on our instructional team.</p> <p>This role is based in Singapore and is delivered in a hybrid (on campus and online) format, requiring instructors to reside in Singapore and have an eligible work permit or be a Singapore citizen or permanent resident. As a teacher, you will join us to:</p> <ul> <li>Work closely with the instructional team (co-lead instructors, instructional associates, instructor manager) to guide students through a rigorous, transformational journey.</li> <li>Become a better leader, coach, and mentor as you learn from students, experienced instructors, and the larger General Assembly community.</li> <li>Inspire and support students as they identify their passions and drive their own continued learning beyond the curriculum; motivate students when they deal with classroom and personal challenges that become barriers to learning.</li> <li>Adapt our global curriculum and use it to guide your teaching, building your own lesson plans as needed and contributing back your lessons learned over time.</li> <li>Facilitate a safe, supportive, and energetic community that welcomes the various  abilities, needs and learning styles of your students.</li> </ul> <h3><strong>What do we teach?</strong></h3> <p>Through a combination of live instruction, supported study with independent work, unit projects (individual and team-based) and 1:1 support to master full-stack web development, we prepare our learners to  become full stack software engineers with experience in solving real world engineering problems.</p> <p>Our curriculum is designed to guide students through the software development process, starting from foundational concepts to advanced applications. We begin with the basics of programming using JavaScript and introduce web design with HTML and CSS. From there, we progress to simple web development, followed by more advanced front-end techniques using React.js.</p> <p>The course then transitions to backend development, focusing on Express.js, API creation, and database management. Approximately 50% of the course is dedicated to JavaScript-based frontend development, 25% to backend development with a focus on APIs, databases, and security, and the remainder on backend development using an additional programming language.</p> <p>Additionally, we equip learners with essential skills for the workplace, including source control, team collaboration, and developer workflows, ensuring they are well-prepared for working in cross-functional team environments.</p> <p> </p> <p>The Software Engineering Bootcamp consists of four units:</p> <ul> <li>Unit 1: Fundamentals of Software Engineering</li> <li>Unit 2: Front-End Development</li> <li>Unit 3: Full-Stack Development</li> <li>Unit 4: Data and Back-End Development</li> </ul> <p>Learning is assessed through four major projects (two independent projects, one team project, and a final course capstone), in addition to smaller projects and labs. About 20% of the overall class time is dedicated to supporting learners’ project work.</p> <h3><strong>Skills and Qualifications</strong></h3> <ul> <li>You are the person that your colleagues naturally gravitate to when they are trying to figure something out.</li> <li>You are eager to shape the skills, minds, and careers of the newest generation of web developers.</li> <li>You have at least 4+ years of experience working on a software development team.</li> <li>Familiarity with Computer Science topics, such as: Recursion, Sorting, Search, Linked Lists, Stacks and queues, Sets, Trees, Search Tries, Graphs, Hash tables, and Design patterns</li> <li>You have working experience in both front-end and back-end development, and are fluent in:</li> <ul> <li>HTML and CSS</li> <li>Full-stack JavaScript (strong JavaScript highly preferred)</li> <li>At least one JS MV* framework (React preferred)</li> <li>SQL databases (we generally use PosgreSQL)</li> <li>NoSQL (we generally cover MongoDB and Redis)</li> <li>At least one additional object-oriented language (Python highly preferred)</li> </ul> </ul> <ul> <li>Priority will be given to applicants with the Advanced Certificate in Learning and Performance (ACLP) /Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA), awarded by the Institute of Adult Learning Singapore.</li> <li>This role is based in Singapore and you must be authorized to work in Singapore. Please ensure you have the right to work in Singapore before applying.</li> </ul> <h3><strong>Responsibilities and Duties</strong></h3> <ul> <li>Teach 40 hours per week; currently classes on Monday through Thursday are on campus, with Fridays remote; we observe all public holidays in Singapore.</li> <li>Commit a few hours per week preparing lessons and materials, leveraging existing GA curriculum content.</li> <li>Work closely with co-instructors and/or teaching assistants to provide students with meaningful and prompt feedback on their progress, including assessment rubrics.</li> <li>Work alongside GA staff and teaching team to best meet the needs and learning styles of your students.</li> <li>Guide students through development of a stellar capstone project that will showcase their abilities to hiring managers.</li> <li>Facilitate a dynamic, collaborative, and positive classroom community.</li> <li>Inspire students to persevere through the challenges of learning a new skill set, as well as dealing with learning barriers along the way.</li> </ul><div><p>Unless otherwise noted, remote positions can be performed from the following approved General Assembly operating countries.</p> <p>United States of America (states of operation may vary), Canada (provinces of operation may vary), United Kingdom, Australia, and Singapore.</p></div>
