The ideal candidate will also have a track record of being an effective thought leader and improving engineering best practices across the organization.  Job Responsibilities  <ul> <li>Design, develop, and maintain high-quality, full-stack AI-enabled software solutions that are scalable, reliable, and easy to maintain. </li> <li>Build data-intensive chat interfaces that effectively harness AI capabilities and provide exceptional user experiences.</li> <li>Develop provenance-aware form fills and intelligent summarization features that enhance productivity and accuracy. </li> <li>Create flexible, reusable frameworks for building AI-enabled applications that can be leveraged across the organization.</li> <li>Lead architecture and system design efforts for complex, distributed AI applications, ensuring alignment with long-term business and technical goals.</li> <li>Collaborate with cross-functional partners in product, design, and business teams to translate strategic AI initiatives into technical solutions.</li> <li>Mentor and coach engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and knowledge sharing around AI application development.</li> <li>Champion engineering best practices and drive initiatives that improve system performance, code quality, and developer productivity across the organization.</li> <li>Be tech lead of a small squad of full stack engineers, providing technical direction, mentorship, and hands-on support. </li> </ul> Education, Experience, and Skills  <ul> <li>8+ years experience in full stack software development with a strong focus on modern web applications.</li> <li>Expert-level proficiency in TypeScript with extensive experience building production-grade front-end applications.</li> <li>Strong proficiency in Python for backend development, particularly in AI/ML integration contexts.</li> <li>7+ years experience building large-scale front-end applications using React (highly preferred) or other modern frameworks (Vue, Angular).</li> <li>7+ years experience developing back-end services and APIs in a distributed, service-oriented architecture using multiple paradigms (e.g. REST, RPC, GraphQL).</li> <li>Demonstrated experience building AI-powered user interfaces, including conversational interfaces and intelligent data processing workflows.</li> <li>Strong experience with data modeling using multiple database and storage types, particularly for AI application contexts.</li> <li>5+ years experience designing and deploying resilient and scalable distributed services in the cloud using Docker and Kubernetes (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure).</li> <li>Applied knowledge of multiple architectural paradigms and design patterns for AI applications. </li> </ul> Bonus Points For  <ul> <li>Experience with AI SDK, assistant-ui, or similar AI application typescript frameworks.</li> <li>Experience building document viewing and manipulation interfaces, particularly with PDFs.</li> <li>Prior healthcare / health tech experience, or experience in other regulated industries, particularly with data privacy and compliance requirements.</li> <li>Experience with LLM integration, prompt engineering, and RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) architectures.</li> <li>Contributions to open-source AI application projects or frameworks. </li> </ul>  <div>~ Science - Minded, Patient - Focused.  At GeneDx, we create, follow, and are informed by cutting-edge science.
