The Department: Platform Our Platform organization’s purpose is to enable Gemini to scale effectively and empower our engineering teams to focus on building innovative financial products and experiences for individuals around the world. Platform focuses around building a scalable and secure foundations platform, enabling Engineering to deploy, validate, and operate their services in production, improve resiliency of the service and increase organizational efficiency by reducing operational toil and increase system efficiency through architectural evolution. The Client Platform team provides a horizontal function that supports and maintains core client development for web and mobile, testing infrastructure, frontend CI/CD pipeline development, maintaining and expanding usage of our foundational design system library, and providing standards for future client development. The team’s mission is to be the force multiplier for other client teams so that they can deliver with quality and speed. The Role: Staff Software Engineer (Mobile, React Native) You will be a core part of leading Gemini’s mobile client development platform, both by contributing to and adopting modern tooling for the mobile client from both a client architecture and its CI process, working cross-functionally across Gemini’s engineering teams to influence, and improve our development practices and culture. This role is required to be in person twice a week at either our San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY office. Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Drive architectural decisions that modernize our mobile stack, ensuring scalability and maintainability.</li> <li>Establish and automate best practices in mobile development, focusing on code quality, reliability, and performance.</li> <li>Lead the initiatives to architect solutions to improve the performance of the mobile application.</li> <li>Monitor app performance and identify and debug performance-related issues using observability tooling.</li> <li>Collaborate and lead on scoping, planning and executing on cross-functional projects that benefit the client application.</li> <li>Implement solutions that further the improvement of developer experience with app architecture that scales and is reliable.</li> <li>Work closely with relevant stakeholders for the mobile client to execute on architectural rollout strategies.</li> <li>Play a key role in technical evaluation of potential tools, libraries and vendor contracts.</li> <li>Ensure that the mobile app adheres to security standards and compliance requirements.</li> </ul> Minimum Qualifications: <ul> <li>8+ years of experience in mobile development, including 4+ years with React Native, building scalable mobile applications.</li> <li>Proficient in JavaScript/TypeScript and native mobile development (Swift/Objective-C and/or Java/Kotlin).</li> <li>Expertise in React Native, navigation libraries (especially React Navigation), lifecycles, state management, and performance optimization.</li> <li>Demonstrable experience in debugging, framework migrations, refactoring, and adopting mobile best practices.</li> <li>Familiarity with CI processes (e.g., GitHub Actions) and automated testing (unit, integration, and end-to-end).</li> <li>Knowledge of mobile best practices and stay informed about innovations in the mobile industry and have the ability to bring in adoption for the same.</li> <li>Deep understanding of engineering excellence, operational excellence, and data-driven decision-making.</li> <li>Strong collaboration skills and ability to prioritize effectively in dynamic environments.</li> </ul> Preferred Qualifications: <ul> <li>Experience working on a Platform team.</li> <li>Experience in migrating to React Native’s New Architecture.</li> <li>Experience working with Expo Native Modules API and Expo updates.</li> <li>Experience working in animation libraries like Reanimated and/or Skia.</li> <li>Knowledge of crypto and/or blockchain.</li> <li>Experience in implementing shared codebases between web and mobile.</li> </ul> <div>It Pays to Work Here</div> <div> </div> <div>The compensation &amp; benefits package for this role includes:</div> <ul> <li>Competitive starting salary</li> <li>A discretionary annual bonus</li> <li>Long-term incentive in the form of a new hire equity grant</li> <li>Comprehensive health plans</li> <li>401K with company matching</li> <li>Paid Parental Leave</li> <li>Flexible time off</li> </ul> Salary Range: The base salary range for this role is between $168,000 - $240,000 in the State of New York, the State of California and the State of Washington. This range is not inclusive of our discretionary bonus or equity package. When determining a candidate’s compensation, we consider a number of factors including skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data. In the United States, employees within the New York, Seattle, San Francisco, and Miami metropolitan areas are expected to work from the designated office on a hybrid cadence, unless there is a job-specific requirement to be in the office every work day. We believe our hybrid approach for those near our NYC, Seattle, San Francisco, and Miami offices increases productivity through more in-person collaboration where possible. Employees outside of these areas are considered part of our remote-first workforce.
