The Department: Acquisition &amp; Activation The Role: Staff Software Engineer As an engineer at Gemini, you’ll be directly involved in collecting, storing, and verifying the identity information of all users of Gemini. We are building a cross-functional, microservice based platform to support the login and registration processes across all of Gemini’s current and future product lines. We are a primarily backend team working in scala. We have a strong culture of code reviews, and a focus on security, with the end goal of writing and shipping high-quality code by getting things right the first time. We want to continue building the best product we can as we scale and grow our business. This role is required to be in person twice a week at either our San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY office. Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Lead the technical side of the planning, design, and requirements process for new products and features</li> <li>Review fellow software engineers’ code for correctness, style, and information security concerns. Provide constructive feedback, guidance, and mentorship to more junior team members</li> <li>Constantly look to improve the performance, maintainability, and operations of the Gemini codebase by via refactoring and upgrade projects</li> <li>Drive operational excellence by improving the instrumentation, monitoring, and alerting of your team’s production software</li> <li>Exhibit excellent verbal and written communications skills with the ability to work closely across teams, time zones, and dependencies</li> <li>Demonstrate sound business judgment, with a proven ability to influence others and make excellent business and technical decisions</li> <li>Always keep our end customer in mind when making any decision</li> </ul> Minimum Qualifications: <ul> <li>At least 8 years of software engineering experience</li> <li>Advanced proficiency with the JVM (Scala preferred) </li> <li>Familiarity with functional programming paradigms</li> <li>The ability to adapt and handle multiple competing priorities in collaboration with peers</li> <li>A customer and product-focused mindset, with the ability to make well-reasoned tradeoffs between speed and quality.</li> <li>Demonstrated ability to lead the design and development of complex, innovative software solutions.</li> <li>A history of designing, building, and working with distributed systems</li> <li>Experience building highly observable, well monitored software</li> </ul> Preferred Qualifications: <ul> <li>Familiarity with AWS cloud infrastructure </li> <li>Experience working with event driven architectures and messaging protocols</li> <li>Prior experience working with gRPC and/or protobuf</li> </ul> <div>It Pays to Work Here</div> <div> </div> <div>The compensation &amp; benefits package for this role includes:</div> <ul> <li>Competitive starting salary</li> <li>A discretionary annual bonus</li> <li>Long-term incentive in the form of a new hire equity grant</li> <li>Comprehensive health plans</li> <li>401K with company matching</li> <li>Paid Parental Leave</li> <li>Flexible time off</li> </ul> Salary Range: The base salary range for this role is between $168,000 - $240,000 in the State of New York, the State of California and the State of Washington. This range is not inclusive of our discretionary bonus or equity package. When determining a candidate’s compensation, we consider a number of factors including skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data. In the United States, we offer a hybrid work approach at our hub offices, balancing the benefits of in-person collaboration with the flexibility of remote work.
