The Department: Product Engagement The Role: Senior Software Engineer (Backend) As a Senior Software Engineer at Gemini, you’ll be at the forefront of solving complex, high-impact challenges that shape the future of digital assets. You’ll work with a passionate, self-driven team that collaborates closely with our Trading Systems engineering team to build innovative, scalable trading products. This is a chance to directly influence the direction of an emerging industry by developing secure, highly available systems that serve millions of users. This role is required to be in person twice a week at either our New York City, NY, or San Francisco, CA office.  Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performance backend services and APIs that power the Gemini platform.</li> <li>Architect and implement reliable, maintainable, and secure solutions, ensuring they meet business and technical requirements.</li> <li>Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers to define, design, and deliver high-quality features.</li> <li>Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code, following best practices for maintainability, security, and performance.</li> <li>Conduct thorough code reviews, providing constructive feedback to ensure code correctness, style consistency, and adherence to security best practices.</li> <li>Optimize system performance and reliability, engaging in refactoring, database tuning, and infrastructure improvements as needed.</li> <li>Drive technical excellence, advocating for best practices in software architecture, testing, and observability.</li> <li>Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends, identifying opportunities to enhance the Gemini backend stack.</li> </ul> Minimum Qualifications: <ul> <li>At least 6 years of software engineering experience.</li> <li>A customer and product-focused mindset, with the ability to make well-reasoned tradeoffs between speed and quality.</li> <li>Expertise in backend development, with advanced proficiency in at least one programming language (we primarily use Scala and Go on the backend, but were open to candidates willing to learn).</li> <li>Strong understanding of cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, and experience with deploying and scaling applications in cloud environments.</li> <li>Ability to balance technical trade-offs between speed and quality while maintaining a strong focus on delivering business value.</li> <li>Proven ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, product, and design teams, and to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.</li> </ul> Preferred Qualifications: <ul> <li>Work experience or knowledge of the finance industry, payments, trading and/or exchange systems.</li> <li>Demonstrated expertise in full-stack product development. </li> </ul> <div>It Pays to Work Here</div> <div> </div> <div>The compensation &amp; benefits package for this role includes:</div> <ul> <li>Competitive starting salary</li> <li>A discretionary annual bonus</li> <li>Long-term incentive in the form of a new hire equity grant</li> <li>Comprehensive health plans</li> <li>401K with company matching</li> <li>Paid Parental Leave</li> <li>Flexible time off</li> </ul> Salary Range: The base salary range for this role is between $140,000 - $200,000 in the State of New York, the State of California and the State of Washington. This range is not inclusive of our discretionary bonus or equity package. When determining a candidate’s compensation, we consider a number of factors including skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data. In the United States, we offer a hybrid work approach at our hub offices, balancing the benefits of in-person collaboration with the flexibility of remote work.
