Youll lead the strategy and execution of a technical roadmap, accelerating product delivery and unlocking new engineering capabilities within our database platform domain.This role is absolutely central to our mission: providing a robust, highly automated, and self-service Postgres DBaaS platform across GEICO. Your work will enable application teams to seamlessly provision, manage, and operate their own Postgres databases, shifting focus from manual operations to powerful automation.Position Responsibilities: As a Senior Software Engineer, you will: <ul><li>Collaborate closely with product managers, team members, customers, and other engineering teams to tackle complex challenges in database platform development</li><li>Develop and execute the technical software development strategy for our Postgres DBaaS platform, focusing on self-service capabilities, business continuity and overall operational efficiency</li><li>Build and refine self-service features that empower application teams to independently manage their databases, including performance tuning, failover, and data recovery</li><li>Work extensively with Kubernetes to deploy and manage Postgres workloads across our cloud infrastructure, with a deep understanding of persistent data requirements for containerized databases</li><li>Be accountable for the quality, usability, and performance of the Postgres DBaaS solutions you deliver</li><li>Consistently share best practices and improve processes both within your team and across other engineering groups</li></ul>Qualifications: <ul><li>Advanced knowledge of at least one modern OOP language such as C#, Go or Python</li><li>Deep, hands-on experience in complex system design and architectures, with a strong focus on scale, performance tuning, Docker, and Kubernetes</li><li>Good understanding in Postgres internals, encompassing performance optimization, query analysis, replication strategies, backup/restore, data integrity, and high availability configurations</li><li>Experience in architecting, designing and building automation, workflows, and distributed applications</li><li>Good knowledge of Kubernetes, containers, and best practices for running stateful database workloads on Kubernetes</li><li>Proven experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines and automating software deployments</li><li>Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform</li><li>Strong Test-Driven Development practices (e.g., unit, functional, integration, load, etc.)</li><li>Understanding of security best practices (e.g., certificates, encryption, data privacy)</li><li>Strong understanding of service integrations / communication standards (e.g., gRPC / REST)</li><li>Excellent communication skills</li></ul>Experience: <ul><li>5+ years of professional experience in software development, platform architecture, and automation</li><li>3+ years of experience with architecture and design of scalable and resilient systems</li><li>3+ years of experience with Azure, AWS or hybrid data center environments</li><li>2+ years of experience in open-source frameworks related to infrastructure or database management</li></ul>Education: <ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience</li></ul></div>  Annual Salary$105,000.00 - $215,000.00The above annual salary range is a general guideline.
