The Role
As a Staff Data Engineer in the Fan Ecosystem organization, you are here to lead and architect our central Data platform and critical data assets. This role reports to our Manager of Data Engineering and is responsible for defining, implementing, training, and executing against our engineering strategy, creating processes, and building tools within the Fan Ecosystem. The Staff Data Engineer will be autonomous, biased-to-action, collaborative, and serve as a technical leader and mentor across the team.
What Youll Do:
- Develop deep expertise in Fan Ecosystem and drive strategic technical decisions across the various business units it supports
- Lead and architect complex, multi-team initiatives to support building data-centric processes to benefit the organization and its business units
- Design and oversee the development of scalable data objects and assets to support business intelligence and data science use cases
- Set the standard for engineering excellence across the organization and drive best practices adoption
- Lead hiring initiatives and mentor engineering team members at all levels
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with internal stakeholders, inside and outside of Engineering, serving as a technical advisor
- Architect and deliver complex service and data integrations between different teams and 3rd parties
- Drive technical vision and roadmap planning for the data platform
- Lead incident response and serve as an escalation point for complex technical issues
- Represent the engineering organization in cross-functional strategic planning sessions
- Must be open to occasional travel to Fanatics offices and other locations for conferences, events, meetings, and team building activities
What Were Looking For:
- 10+ years of experience in data engineering with demonstrated progression in technical leadership roles
- Expert-level technical skills, both functional and non-functional, in a continuous delivery environment with ability to architect complex systems
- Proven track record of leading large-scale technical initiatives and mentoring senior engineers
- Deep experience partnering with analysts, product managers, and other engineers across multiple teams and business units
- Extensive experience in large-scale cloud databases, data transformation, performance optimization, and distributed systems architecture
- Expert proficiency with modern tech stack and languages (python, SQL, SQS, Snowflake, S3, SFTP, dbt, Airflow) and ability to evaluate and adopt new technologies
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in ambiguous, fast-paced environments and drive clarity through technical leadership
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence technical decisions and represent complex topics to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Strong experience working within AWS environment and Snowflake, with ability to architect cloud-native solutions
- Experience with data governance, security, and compliance frameworks
- Track record of driving engineering culture and process improvements
The salary range for this position is $216,000 to $250,000, which represents base pay only and does not include short-term or long-term incentive compensation. When determining base pay, as part of a final compensation package, we consider several factors such as location, experience, qualifications, and training.
