Data is the currency in todays world, and in this role, you will be at the forefront of a digital transformation. We are looking for a Senior Staff Engineer to provide strategic technical leadership for our real-time API platform, which powers mission-critical, high-throughput services across our ecosystem. This platform underpins the availability, performance, and scalability of core customer and partner-facing experiences.As a Senior Staff Engineer, you will report to the Software Development Director and operate as a hands-on technical leader, influencing architecture and implementation across multiple teams. Youll guide important decisions, mentor engineers, and ensure the platform meets demanding Service Level Agreements for latency, reliability, and throughput.Technical Leadership &amp; Architecture<ul><li>Architect and evolve our real-time API platform for scalability, low-latency, and high availability (4–5 9s uptime).</li><li>Lead design and implementation of platform-wide projects, such as event-driven architecture, observability, service mesh integration, and rate-limiting strategies.</li></ul>Cross-Team Collaboration<ul><li>Partner with engineering managers, staff engineers, product managers, and infrastructure teams to align technical execution with our priorities.</li><li>Define and promote best practices for API design, versioning, patterns, and developer experience.</li></ul>Execution &amp; Influence<ul><li>Bring complex projects from concept to production, influencing technical direction across multiple teams.</li><li>Lead technical deep dives, reviews, and postmortems to improve engineering quality.</li></ul>Operational Excellence<ul><li>Lead the reliability, scalability, and performance of real-time APIs and associated platform services.</li><li>Work with SREs and DevOps to improve observability, incident response, and system tuning.</li></ul><h3>Qualifications</h3><ul><li>10+ years of experience in backend or platform engineering with a focus on distributed systems and API design</li><li>Experience designing and operating real-time, low-latency API platforms at scale</li><li>Experience with protocols (HTTP, gRPC, WebSockets), caching, load balancing, and API security</li><li>Experience with at least one modern backend language (Go, Java, Rust, or Node.js).</li><li>Knowledge of distributed systems, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), and modern backend stacks (e.g., Node.js, Java, Go, or Python)</li><li>AWS and Python experience</li><li>Experience with API gateways, load balancing, caching, and observability tools (Kibana, Grafana, Datadog, and Prometheus)</li><li>Familiarity with event-driven architectures, message queues (Kafka) and stream processing frameworks</li><li>DevOps Knowledge: Docker and Kubernetes</li><li>Experience influencing technical direction beyond your immediate team</li></ul><h3>Additional Information</h3>Benefits/Perks:<ul><li>Great compensation package and bonus plan</li><li>Core benefits including medical, dental, vision, and matching 401K</li><li>Flexible work environment, ability to work remote, hybrid or in-office</li><li>Flexible time off including volunteer time off, vacation, sick and 12-paid holidays</li><li>Explore all our exciting benefits here: <a href="https://yourexperianbenefits.com/cand-index.html">https://yourexperianbenefits.com/cand-index.html</a></li></ul>At Experian, our people and culture set us apart.
