Our team owns the power electronic subsystems that enable Ericsson’s advanced 5G and upcoming 6G equipment to meet strict efficiency, reliability and electromagnetic compatibility requirements. We are now offering an opportunity for two Master’s students to carry out a thesis project focused on managing pulsating load currents in mobile network equipment, with a clear emphasis on power electronics, converter design and hardware-level validation.In modern mobile networks, fluctuating data traffic leads to varying power demands, creating pulsating load currents. These currents can impact system performance and efficiency. This thesis, starting in spring 2026 at our Lindholmen site in Gothenburg, aims to study and evaluate strategies to mitigate such effects inside the equipment, using techniques like active filtering, novel converter control schemes, and new converter topologies. Depending on your approach, hardware prototypes for concept testing can also be developed. What you will do:<ul><li>Analyze the origin and characteristics of pulsating load currents in 5G and 6G mobile network equipment.</li><li>Investigate and develop mitigation strategies, such as active filtering or improved converter control.</li><li>Explore and propose new converter topologies adapted for pulsating loads.</li><li>If needed, design and test hardware prototypes.</li><li>Collaborate with Ericsson Power engineers and internal product development teams.</li><li>Document results and propose future development directions.</li></ul> The skills you bring:<ul><li>Currently pursuing a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Physics with a clear focus on power electronics.</li><li>Proven knowledge or coursework in power converters, switched-mode power supplies, and/or power electronic topologies.</li><li>Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.</li><li>Curiosity, problem-solving mindset, and collaborative approach.</li><li>Ability to work well in a team of two students.</li></ul> By taking on this thesis, you will not only deepen your expertise in power electronics but also contribute to real-world innovations in mobile network infrastructure, impacting the next generation of connectivity.</div></div></div>Why join Ericsson?At Ericsson, you´ll have an outstanding opportunity.
