The Senior Director Capital Equipment Procurement will play a pivotal role in developing and executing a comprehensive strategy for materials and equipment to support our manufacturing and expansion plans—covering both construction and production equipment. This leader will be responsible for building organizational capability, driving cost efficiencies, and ensuring availability and resilience across the supply chain. A critical aspect of this role is to define and develop the organizational model required to support long-term strategic objectives. This role report to the AVP of Global Capital and Strategic Real Estate Procurement. We are seeking a candidate with proven experience supporting mega capital construction projects globally, ideally with oversight of $1B+ in spend, who can bring a global perspective and operational rigor to this high-impact role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organizational Design & Capability Building
    • Define and develop the organizational model to support the materials and equipment function, ensuring it aligns with strategic goals and scales with business growth.
    • Build and mentor a high-performing team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Category Strategy Leadership
    • Define and implement a comprehensive category strategy for materials and equipment in alignment with business objectives and execution teams.
    • Train and enable the broader organization to understand and apply the category strategy effectively.
  • Strategic Procurement Execution
    • Leverage procurement levers to maximize value, including:
      • Aggregating spend to enhance negotiation leverage.
      • Disaggregating spend to secure additional capacity or mitigate risk.
    • Collaborate with Contracting & Commercial Management to develop and maintain fit-for-purpose contract templates and frameworks.
  • Operational Alignment & Compliance
    • Partner closely with execution teams to ensure category strategy compliance and alignment with project timelines and operational needs.
    • Monitor and report on compliance metrics and corrective actions where needed.
  • Market Intelligence & Supplier Management
    • Continuously monitor market trends, supply risks, and innovation opportunities.
    • Build and maintain strategic supplier relationships to ensure continuity, quality, and cost competitiveness.
    • Lead supplier performance reviews and risk mitigation planning.
  • Value Creation & Cost Optimization
    • Identify and deliver cost savings opportunities through strategic sourcing, supplier consolidation, and process improvements.
    • Drive total cost of ownership (TCO) thinking across the procurement lifecycle.

Your Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management, Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related degree.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience supporting construction industry in supply chain or procurement management, or materials and equipment management
  • Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Lilly will not provide support for or sponsor work authorization and/or visas for this role.

  • Consistent track record of negotiating and leading multi million dollar equipment contract discussions
  • Deep understanding of construction equipment contracting, pricing/methods, and strategic sourcing
  • Exceptional commercial acumen and strategic thinking abilities.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and lead multiple priorities.
  • Experience in a senior procurement role within a large, complex organization.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices and emerging trends in capital procurement and construction contracting, particularly in mega industrial projects.
  • Professional certifications such as CPSM, CIPS, or PMP.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in strategic equipment procurement, category management, or supply chain leadership roles—preferably in capital-intensive or manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated success supporting a portfolio of global mega capital construction projects
  • Strong understanding of contract development, supplier negotiations, and risk management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and change management skills.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location.  The anticipated wage for this position is

$150,000 - $220,000

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
