Come join us for a whale of a ride!The teams contributing to our Container Platform are responsible for shipping the container runtime across Linux, Windows, and macOS. This includes the Docker Engine, containerd, and the management of the VM and host-to-VM filesharing and networking where needed. In this role you will lead the teams on designing, developing, and maintaining parts of this stack. You will be accountable for the operational excellence and delivery of the team.The successful candidate has a deep technical background that they leverage to drive the team to operational excellence and good technical decisions. They are skilled at growing and managing engineering managers and very senior individual contributors. They have a track record of working lower in the stack and building successful teams. They love developer tooling, have an eye for detail, and work well with customers, users, and partners.<h1>Responsibilities:</h1><ul><li>Management of teams of engineers distributed across Europe and the US.</li><li>Ensure predictable delivery and operational excellence of the components the teams ship.</li><li>Align the team with business and product goals by working closely with product management.</li><li>Facilitate communication across teams and status reporting for critical projects.</li><li>Hire and retain talent.</li><li>Hold a high bar for engineering excellence.</li></ul><h1>Qualifications:</h1><ul><li>5+ years experience managing a high performing team.</li><li>5+ years experience as a backend software developer.</li><li>Strong verbal and written communication skills.</li><li>Comfortable with a high degree of autonomy (self-motivated, organized) and the ability to work remotely across time zones.</li></ul><h1>What to expect </h1><h2>First 30 days:</h2><ul><li>Understand the group mission.</li><li>Meet the teams along with peers across the group and company.</li><li>Start line managing reports and building a rapport.</li><li>High-level understanding of the existing Docker functionality.</li><li>Participate in status reporting.</li><li>Understanding of the Docker personas and how they apply to the team.</li></ul><h2>First 90 days:</h2><ul><li>Work with the teams to align on goals and measures of success.</li><li>Start career discussions with reports.</li><li>Work with the teams to improve their processes.</li><li>Attend a customer call.</li><li>Oversee the delivery of a change or feature.</li><li>Started hiring for the team (if needed).</li></ul><h2>One-year outlook</h2><ul><li>Been involved in driving the long term direction of the teams.</li><li>Have had a sustained, positive impact on reports.</li></ul>We use Covey as part of our hiring and / or promotional process for jobs in NYC and certain features may qualify it as an AEDT.
