Job Description:
The Chief Risk Officer (CRO) Iberia is responsible for the Risk Management in Spain and Portugal, including DB SAEU and all other legal entities. The CRO is an independent function with direct access to the Board of Directors to perform his tasks. The Risk Management function covers the credit institutions’ major risks, including credit, operational, market and liquidity risks.
Responsibilities
- Position specific responsibilities and accountabilities:
Accountabilities (take ultimate decisions): You will holistically manage Risk at Iberia region, properly determining, quantifying and reporting all major risks. Present a full picture of the whole range of risks to which the institution is exposed. Act as escalation channel and is accountable for dispute resolution; oversee the disciplinary process. Ensure the proper organization of the function and adherence to DB’s Core Organizational Principles.
Actively participate in drawing up DB Iberia’s risk strategy and in all significant risk management decisions. Ensure effective implementation of relevant strategies and key operating procedures for the function. Ensure the required expertise of staff and the adequate independence of the function.
You will be accountable for implementation of an effective non-financial risk-type control framework for assigned risk types. Managing non-financial risks within area of responsibility and overseeing respective controls. Accountable for delivery of remediation actions owned by the unit
Responsibilities (take decisions within a provided framework): You will manage and oversee risks arising from DB in Iberia business. Ensure appropriate and effective governance, control and risk management frameworks, efficiency of the organization and use of resources in the area of responsibility. Represent the function towards internal/external stakeholders (incl. regulatory requested risk information). Ensure the timely remediation of identified issues (e.g. audit findings and regulatory issues). Coordinate that a consistent firm-wide approach is adopted for the respective area of responsibility. Drive collaboration and a trust-based relationships within function and with DB Iberia’s Business Divisions and other Infrastructure functions
Supporting (helping or facilitating role): The CRO directly informs the Board of Directors on specific changes in risk that affect or may affect the institution. Provide advice and counsel to local Senior Management on risk related matters. Advise the Business divisions in Spain and Portugal to deliver well-structured and profitable business to the Banks clients. Support Local and Group wide projects which require a risk perspective/expertise.

Role Description – Head of Function: Set a vision for long term organizational success at global/regional business level and implements respective strategic plans. Oversee development and execution of objectives, plans and policies and is accountable for continuous efforts to improve Deutsche Bank’s competitive position and its performance. Ensure financial success by controlling budget planning and management as well as the P&L. Maintain internal and external key business relationships. Ensure alignment to the DB risk management framework as well as to current regulatory and compliance requirements. Represent the function in the respective senior fora and committees.
Role Responsibilities: Independent Risk Management. Active participation in drawing up the Risk strategy. Challenge the management of issues and the development and implementation of the strategy.

Position specific leadership responsibilities: Promote a cross-entity risk awareness culture and an effective governance of significant risks across DB Iberia. Develop and manage qualitative and quantitative risk reporting which meets the needs of the Board to support effective decision making. Provide essential input as member of local Senior Management and credibly challenge the management of current issues and the development and implementation of the risk strategy.
Skills
- Risk & Regulatory experience: Measurement and monitoring of risks, implementation of, and compliance with, the risk management policies and procedures, the management of all kind of risks and risk controls including monitoring and testing of such risk controls and reporting risks and risk-management deficiencies and resolving such deficiencies in a timely manner.
- Business experience: Substantial experience of risk management within the banking industry, preferably in both, Retail and Wholesale, strong understanding of applicable rules and regulations (e.g. Bank of Spain, Basel IV) as well as products, processes and systems, In depth knowledge of the major risk classes and associated analytics, preferably with strong experience in credit risk, considerable experience in strategy and business planning and understanding of implications from regulatory side, i.e. capital ratio implications and risk absorbing capacities of regulatory capital. - Experience in managing costs and capital and understanding of risk models and experience of working in Spain required. Experience of other European jurisdictions an advantage
- Leadership experience: relevant managerial experience, having led a significant team of risk professionals and managers with own teams within a financial institution, ability to constructively challenge and partner across Risk and businesses and strategic thinking (including horizon scanning & strategic analysis), forward looking mentality and excellent communication skills in Spanish and English
- Qualifications: recognized risk qualification (IRM Certificate or equivalent) is an advantage and bachelor or Masters-level degree from an accredited college or university in economics, law or related field
- Soft skills: Ability to work to a high standard and with discretion, being able to build smoothly a strong network, proactive problem solving and solution oriented approach, ability to work under pressure and manage various complex priorities in time
