Come grow with us at Demandbase! <h3>About the Role</h3> Demandbase is hiring a Staff Database Reliability Engineer (DBRE) to lead the evolution of our database infrastructure. You’ll own the reliability, scalability, and performance of the systems that power our B2B SaaS platform — ensuring real-time personalization and analytics for some of the world’s largest enterprise marketers. You’ll provide technical leadership to a global DBRE team, drive automation and best practices, and partner with engineering teams to move faster — without compromising on stability. The base compensation range for this position for candidates in the SF Bay Area is: $140,000 - $210,000. For all other locations, the base compensation range is based on the primary work location of the candidate as our ranges are location specific. Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skillset, years of experience, and depth of experience. <h3>What You’ll Be Doing</h3> Own our core database infrastructure <ul> <li>Design, operate, and scale AWS RDS (PostgreSQL/MySQL), DynamoDB, and BigQuery</li> <li>Ensure performance, uptime, security, and cost-efficiency across environments</li> <li>Architect solutions for high availability and disaster recovery </li> </ul> Automate everything <ul> <li>Build and maintain automation for provisioning, backups, failover, schema changes</li> <li>Use Python, Shell scripting, GitLab CI/CD, and Terraform to reduce toil</li> <li>Standardize infrastructure via reusable templates and IaC modules </li> </ul> Partner across teams <ul> <li>Work with product and platform engineers to optimize schemas and queries</li> <li>Support development velocity with tools, docs, and onboarding support</li> <li>Drive performance tuning, cost monitoring, and reliability best practices </li> </ul> Lead incident response &amp; observability <ul> <li>Own database observability with Prometheus, Grafana, and Datadog</li> <li>Participate in on-call rotations and lead resolution of database issues</li> <li>Continuously improve detection, alerting, and recovery processes </li> </ul> Mentor &amp; lead a global team <ul> <li>Guide DBREs across time zones (U.S. and India) with clear direction and support</li> <li>Encourage learning, documentation, and a culture of shared ownership </li> </ul> <h3>What We’re Looking For</h3> <ul> <li>12+ years of experience in database engineering or operations</li> <li>Deep expertise with AWS RDS (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and DynamoDB</li> <li>Strong experience with performance tuning, HA strategies, and data security</li> <li>Solid Linux skills and scripting (Python, Shell)</li> <li>Hands-on with Terraform, CI/CD (GitLab or similar), Docker/Kubernetes</li> <li>Familiar with observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog)</li> <li>Experience leading teams or mentoring other engineers</li> <li>Clear communicator — both technical and collaborative</li> </ul> <h3>Nice to Have</h3> <ul> <li>Experience in B2B SaaS or high-scale MarTech platforms</li> <li>Familiarity with Google Cloud (BigQuery, GCP tooling)</li> <li>Exposure to data modeling for analytics or event-driven architectures</li> <li>Understanding of SLAs, multi-tenancy, or customer-facing reliability challenges</li> </ul> Benefits: We offer a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your health, well-being, and financial security.
