As a Senior Product Designer at dbt Labs, youll be at the forefront of revolutionizing the data transformation experience for our customers. You will lead design efforts for our visual SQL editing experience, creating intuitive interfaces that empower analytics engineers to work more efficiently and effectively.

Your contributions will be crucial in enhancing our design system and crafting experiences that make complex SQL workflows more accessible and delightful. In this role, youll have the opportunity to shape innovative solutions that directly impact our users, helping them navigate the complexities of data transformation with unprecedented ease.

Were looking for someone who is passionate about creating developer-focused tools, has a strong technical foundation, and can translate complex SQL workflows into intuitive visual interfaces that delight our users.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Lead the design of our visual SQL editing experience
  • Create intuitive interfaces that transform complex SQL concepts into accessible visual elements
  • Design experiences that cater to both SQL beginners and advanced users
  • Create high quality, delightful experiences while collaborating with designers, product managers, engineers, and others on your team
  • Take concepts from research, to exploration, to prototypes, to production
  • Work quickly with an iterative design philosophy that uses rapid prototyping and testing
  • Be an active member of the Design team by sharing your work, actively participating in design reviews, and collaborating with others to make their work and the whole team better
  • Contribute to the definition and expansion of new and existing design systems
  • Develop a solid understanding of the data practitioners who use our product, and how best to design for them

You are a good fit if you:

  • Have 5+ years of product design experience, working with product development teams focused on creating complex B2B or enterprise products
  • Have experience designing tools and interfaces specifically for developer or analyst workflows
  • Have working knowledge of SQL and database concepts to effectively design visual SQL editing experiences
  • Have a strong portfolio demonstrating measurable impact on user acquisition, activation, retention, or revenue metrics
  • Are proficient in modern design tools (Figma, Sketch, etc.)
  • Work quickly with an iterative design philosophy that uses rapid prototyping and testing
  • Are highly collaborative and love learning from others
  • Are self-directed with ability to manage ambiguity and prioritize effectively
  • Have a low ego, collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams (Product, Engineering, Marketing)

Youll have an edge if you have:

  • Basic understanding of front-end development principles (HTML, CSS)
  • Familiarity with product analytics tools
  • Familiarity with dbt and data engineering workflows
  • Experience with designing query builders or visual programming interfaces
  • Background in designing for different user skill levels (novice to expert)
  • Knowledge of accessibility considerations for technical tools
  • Portfolio examples that demonstrate simplifying complex SQL workflows through visual design
  • Previous work on tools that bridge visual and code-based interactions

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: 155,000 - 200,000 USD
