Manager I, Engineering - Findings Prioritization

$187k - $240k

Datadog

New York, NYUSRemote

Datadog is developing security products to help security and DevOps teams secure their code and cloud environments. A key challenge for users is prioritizing security issues amidst numerous misconfigurations and vulnerabilities.

Effective prioritization requires assessing resource accessibility to attackers and the potential impact of a compromise. To address this, we ingest and store cloud resources at scale in our graph database. The teams mission is to identify access paths in a cloud environment (example: identify which principal has permission over other resources, or what resource is accessible from the internet,...) and build the detection engine that leverages this graph database to identify the riskiest attack paths within customer environments. The team also aims to deliver crucial findings, such as attack paths, misconfigurations, and vulnerabilities, in a clear and actionable manner for the customer (security inbox)

We are looking for an engineering manager who can influence both technical and product decisions to make the best product experience possible. As the Engineering Manager of this team, you will be responsible for managing a team of 6 engineers (5 backend and 1 frontend) spread between NYC, Paris and remote in EMEA. You will work closely with the other EM1s of the organization to build your roadmap. You’ll manage the career path of your  team, building the roadmap, and ensuring the architecture is able to support needs from the product teams.

At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships that it builds, the creativity it brings to the table, and the collaboration of being together. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our employees can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.

What You’ll Do:

  • You’ll spend around half of your time on management, and half doing hands-on technical work.
  • You will be responsible for the team dealing with identifying access paths / blast radius of cloud resources. Your team is also building the detection engine for Attack paths. This team works closely with other engineering teams as well as with our Detection engineering team building the out of the box detections for our users
  • You’ll work with and mentor the engineers on your team. This might mean joining a brainstorm about a hard technical problem, reviewing an RFC, or discussing areas where they want to grow or have gaps, and supporting them in developing those skills
  • You’ll contribute to the Findings prioritization codebase, adding functionality and debugging issues. The code you add will help customers prevent potential attacks
  • You’ll join our product managers and other engineers in working closely with partner customers to get early feedback on features we’re building, learn what features they need, and help respond to customer support cases that are escalated to our team.
  • You’ll help us continue to raise the bar on the quality of our code and the stability of our services.

Who You Are:

  • You have strong communication skills, emotional intelligence and skills at collaborating with and coaching people across different geographies
  • You have 4+ years of software development experience and can write production ready code in multiple languages such as Java, Python & Go
  • You have experience building reliable systems that can operate at scale and with strong available constraints
  • You have direct people management experience and a strong desire to develop as an engineering leader.
  • You thrive in ambiguous, fast-paced environments and find ways to drive outcomes working with key stakeholders.
  • You are a technical polyglot that can work across various stacks and languages including high volume, distributed systems.
  • You are interested to work in an environment that values shipping early and iterating, and keeping processes to the minimum needed to ship safely.

Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. Thats okay. If you’re passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.
