Come explore the possibilities in our exciting, fast paced, high volume, work environment!SUMMARYThe Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting CONA (In-Clinic) with the period end close process and other routine accounting functions.  This includes preparing account reconciliations, investigating variances or unexpected results, preparing and posting journal entries, and working with others to find creative solutions to challenges and issues.  This role will involve partnering with other teams in the accounting and finance department including Treasury, Financial Planning and Analysis, Payroll, Tax and other Covetrus subsidiaries to process intercompany transactions as well as perform audit controls.This role will receive support and supervision from the Accounting Supervisor as well as others within the accounting and finance departments.  The ideal candidate will also have the ability to work independently when appropriate and exercise sound judgement when assignments have been delegated.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.<ul><li>Serve as a senior associate with the monthly, quarterly and annual close process for ensuring all financial information is accurately reflected in the general ledger in compliance with GAAP.</li><li>Perform account reconciliations and investigate significant variance or unexpected results and maintain appropriate support.</li><li>Review, prepare and upload journal entries and provide exception reports when required.</li><li>Review and assess exception reports from both a quantitative and qualitative perspective and investigate key variances and unexpected results. </li><li>Assist with preparing documents and responding to requests from the Company’s external auditor and internal SOX/AICPA team as necessary.</li><li>Review departmental procedures and identify and recommend operational efficiency opportunities.</li><li>Lead meetings with internal customers which include various levels of management to develop understanding and agreement of account balances specific to their departments. Ensure that accruals are recorded, and balances are maintained within GAAP guidelines.</li><li>Update the general ledger system adding, changing, or deleting accounts, cost centers or territories as directed.  Maintain AFI tables and related postings.  Maintain accounting records per the Company’s retention policy.</li><li>Provide financial analyses, support, and expertise relative to quarterly reviews and annual independent audits, and other external audits or consulting engagements as well as serve as a liaison between Finance and the organization as related to profit and loss statement questions, requests and issues. </li><li>Utilize Microsoft Excel software and AS-400 system query utilities to design models and applications to further streamline accounting processes, enhance data accuracy and reduce the level of manual intervention and paper flow.  Implement new technologies within the General Accounting area to streamline functions and processes.</li><li>Provide training and guidance to new General Accounting staff members as well as provide support to Department associates as well as field personnel.</li><li>Participate in special projects, as directed by the Accounting Supervisor and/or Controller.  Support completion of departmental MBOs. Perform other special duties requiring independent judgment and skills.</li><li>Other Adhoc responsibilities as required.</li></ul>COMPETENCIES (SKILLS &amp; ABILITIES)<ul><li>Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).</li><li>Must have the ability to communicate relevant information to the intended parties in an easily understandable format.</li><li>Must have the ability to multitask and reorganize assignments based on shifting needs and priorities.</li><li>Must demonstrate strong attention to accuracy and detail.</li><li>Desire to seek out opportunities to assist others with special projects and other initiatives during any downtime.</li><li>Must have the ability to utilize creative problem-solving skills.</li><li>Must demonstrate a strong commitment toward continual learning and personal development.</li><li>Must have the ability to understand complex and sensitive issues, demonstrate resourcefulness and creative problem solving to assist with addressing issues.</li><li>Proven ability to meet or exceed deadlines and work as part of a team</li></ul>CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS<ul><li>CPA designation or actively pursuing CPA designation preferred</li></ul>QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE<ul><li>Bachelors degree in Accounting/Finance or related degree.</li><li>Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in public or private accounting or finance.  Public accounting / audit experience with desire to obtain CPA license preferred but not necessary.</li><li>At least 5 years+ of progressively responsible financial accounting and analysis experience.</li><li>Experience and advanced proficiency in Word, Excel and Power-point.</li><li>Experience with general ledger and financial reporting systems.  Experience specifically with System 21 AS400 but not required.</li><li>Advance understanding of US GAAP.</li><li>Experience with multiple entity / subsidiary organizations and intercompany transactions preferred.</li></ul>PHYSICIAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENTThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
