Responsibilities include implementing and maintaining robust RESTful APIs for account management, agency relationships, and W2R broker associations. This work is grounded in a commitment to quality, requiring the engineer to write clean, well-tested code (unit/integration), contribute to CI/CD pipelines, and actively participate in design discussions and code reviews.</span></p> <p><span>In addition to development, the role has a significant operational and collaborative component. The engineer provides vital support by debugging production issues using observability tools like Datadog and participating in an on-call rotation. They collaborate closely with other engineering teams and stakeholders throughout the sprint planning and delivery process to build features that support the entire account lifecycle, broker onboarding, and agency workflows, while continuously working to improve service reliability, scalability, and documentation.</span></p> <p><span>Our platform consists of services written in Python and Go. We prefer to use the right tool for the job and make pragmatic judgments about how to scale and continue to decouple systems as we grow. Youll be on an extremely cross-functional team that is very collaborative both internally and externally with the engineering organization at large.</span></p> </div> <h4><span>Responsibilities</span></h4> <ul> <li><span>Build out high quality APIs and web services providing a scalable, efficient and tailored set of interfaces</span></li> <li><span>Design, document and deploy public interfaces that are a joy to consume</span></li> <li><span>Work with cross functional stakeholders including product, design, sales, and others to help break down business requirements into actionable plans</span></li> <li><span>Collaborate with Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to develop and deliver applications in a repeatable, stable and joyful software development lifecycle</span></li> <li><span>Develop test cases and enhance automated testing suite to ensure engineering excellence</span></li> <li><span>Make Coalition a better place by taking on the unseen, unforeseen and important items that come up along the way</span></li> </ul> <h4><span>Skills and Qualifications</span></h4> <ul> <li><span>API and service development in Python and/or Go</span></li> <li><span>Production tested cloud-native development fundamentals including horizontal scaling, 12-factor application design, security fundamentals like OWASP, etc.</span></li> <li><span>Assessing software errors with tools like Sentry, DataDog, Jaeger/Zipkin, GreyLog or Appdynamics</span></li> <li><span>Container-based deployment and development with Docker</span></li> <li><span>Experience using multiple transports and formats (e.g. REST, gRPC, GraphQL)</span></li> <li><span>Use of source control - git, svn or perforce</span></li> <li><span>Working with an agile team using collaborative development tools - Atlassian Suite, GitHub or GitLab</span></li> <li><span>0-2+ years of blended internship and/or professional development experience</span></li> <li><span>Computer Science or Engineering degree - related technical discipline or equivalent work experience</span></li> </ul> <h4><span>Bonus Points</span></h4> <ul> <li><span>Experience with AI tooling/LLMs</span></li> <li><span>Production experience serving large user bases (100,000+)</span></li> <li><span>Production experience with other languages such as Go</span></li> <li><span>Development in distributed, event-driven and message-driven architectures</span></li> </ul> <h4><span>Compensation</span></h4> <p><span>Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The US base salary for this position ranges from $$112,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $165,825/year in our highest geographic market. Consistent with applicable laws, an employees pay within this range is based on a number of factors, which include but are not limited to relevant education, skills, job-related knowledge, qualifications, work experience, credentials, and/or geographic location.
