You will be the technical lead for Carrot’s financial systems, with a focus on payments infrastructure. In this highly visible and hands-on role, you will architect and build core systems that move money securely and reliably to our global members and customers. As a foundational member of our financial engineering function, you’ll shape the long-term direction of our payments architecture. You will own technical outcomes and collaborate across teams to deliver scalable solutions that meet evolving business needs. You thrive in fast-paced environments, take initiative in the face of ambiguity, and balance quick wins with long-term maintainability. You’ll report to a Lead Engineer of a new Payments financial team at Carrot and work closely with them, as well as our VP of Payments, to help define objectives and execute on strategy. You’ll partner with Product, Finance, and other teams to design and build secure, resilient systems. Your work will include integrating external SaaS tools and building internal infrastructure that is accurate, compliant, and easy to maintain. While the focus is backend and systems architecture, this is a full-stack role. You should be confident in contributing across the stack, including APIs, frontend, and infrastructure.   The Team:  <ul> <li>We are a fast-moving, adaptable, and highly collaborative group of skilled Engineers, Engineering leaders, Product leaders, and Designers, working with teams across the organization cross-functionally to enable cohesive solutions across the product and business.</li> <li>Our engineers work closely with external vendors to move funds accurately and quickly to members, customers, and partners across global markets.</li> <li>We aim to build systems that are scalable, transparent, and easy to evolve as Carrot’s offerings expand.</li> <li>We favor a Lean approach to our product development, following the parts of agile that work best for us.</li> <li>We’re empowered to make local decisions, reducing the overhead of getting things done.</li> <li>We highly value having effective feedback mechanisms alongside empowerment to support continuous iterative improvements in all we do, to achieve better outcomes together.</li> <li>We welcome new technologies and are constantly self-evaluating our tools to ensure they are solving our needs.</li> </ul> Minimum Qualifications:  <ul> <li>5+ years of professional software development experience</li> <li>You have 2+ years of experience as a Staff or Lead-level engineer with full-stack responsibilities.</li> <li>Experience in fintech, payments, or financial systems.</li> <li>Strong technical skills across backend development, systems design, and vendor integration.</li> <li>Experience integrating with SaaS-based financial tools or payment platforms (e.g. Stripe, Airwallex, Modern Treasury, Plaid).</li> <li>You thrive in leading through complexity and ambiguity, adapting to emerging challenges and business demands, while thoughtfully but pragmatically considering tradeoffs to make informed decisions. </li> <li>You understand that there is not a one-size-fits-all decision engine for how we build Carrot’s product. The starting base salary for this position will range from $165,000.00 - $202,000.00.
