Manager, Events & Issues: Card Risk (Hybrid)

As a Manager in Card Risk, you will join a team of highly motivated Risk Management professionals who identify, manage, and mitigate risk to Capital One. You’ll provide leadership to a talented team of Event & Issue Management experts who guide partners through the breakdown management process, synthesize trends, and ensure high quality risk data capture. 

The team plays an integral part in governing the issue & event management processes; ensuring adherence to both Enterprise standards and expedited remediation expectations for our customers.

The Risk Manager will collaborate with a broad audience of event management, process management, risk office, legal, and compliance partners. You’ll leverage your people leadership skills to foster an inclusive environment, innovative mindset to optimize processes, and strategic thinking to develop management systems that drive us toward our destination state.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct people management and talent development to a team of event & issue governance professionals

  • Creation of effective metrics and reporting required to communicate performance and information to broad audiences

  • Establish strong interaction models and relationships to collaborate with key stakeholders, ensuring delivery of commitments

  • Drive prioritization recommendations, understanding & articulating appropriate trade-offs, and escalating where appropriate

  • Manage and approve issues & events to ensure complete and high-quality data capture

  • Maintain a deep understanding of enterprise & divisional risk management standards, and apply to event & issue management practices

  • Identify insights to drive cutting edge process enhancements

  • Establish and maintain positive working relationship with business partners, compliance advisors, and other risk associates

  • Coordinate, influence and negotiate to ensure appropriate prioritization & escalation 

  • Maintain an understanding of the risk management environment

  • Support audit, exam, and testing initiatives as needed 

  • Training & development of others as necessary

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, military experience or equivalent certification

  • At least 5 years of risk management experience

  • At least 5 years of process management or project management experience

  • At least 3 years of direct people management 


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree or military experience

  • 3 years of risk event and issue management experience

  • 3 years of Agile or Design Thinking experience

  • Lean, Agile, Six Sigma, Business Process Management or Project Management Certification

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $146,100 - $166,700 for Risk Manager

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
