Breakthrough New York is seeking dynamic and talented college students (or recent graduates) to teach and support high school students—primarily during our monthly Super Saturday programming. Teaching and Student Support Fellows will be responsible for delivering instructional content in a structured and supportive classroom setting consisting of 10-15 high school students. Teaching and Student Support Fellows receive training, professional development, and ongoing guidance from full-time BTNY staff throughout the school year.
 
Fellows also support students during structured enrichment events and fieldtrips and may engage with students in mentorship activities, tutoring, homework support and a variety of HS readiness/career/college focused workshops.

Teaching and Student Support Fellows will be working with students from September 6, 2025 to May 31, 2026.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Working onsite during 8 Super Saturdays (9:00 am - 3:00 pm) throughout the academic school year.
  • Co-leading classroom lessons and facilitating small-group activities in support of full-time BTNY staff.
  • Completing 6 hours of mandatory training (plus optional professional development opportunities).
  • Supporting select enrichment events at the BTNY office or as a chaperone.
  • Receiving feedback constructively to improve performance.
  • Tracking and reporting classroom and student meeting outcomes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

TEACHING AND STUDENT SUPPORT FELLOWS CALENDAR:

  • Teaching and Student Support Fellow training: Early September (half-day trainings).
  • Ongoing professional development opportunities around higher education policy, college admissions and access, curriculum development, and  college application writing/editing.

ANTICIPATED TIME COMMITMENT:
This role requires up to 90 hours of paid work including:
  • 6-7 hours of in-person and asynchronous training in late August.
  • 48 hours of Programming across 8 Saturdays throughout the academic year, 9am-3pm
  • Up to 35 hours of additional enrichment, support, and engagement activities throughout the year.
