This is a tremendous career opportunity to own the ins and outs of building an internal comms function at a fast-growing startup. You’ll help everyone at Benchling understand the company’s mission, how their work relates to it, and what’s happening across our global organization. By crafting innovative ways to align, inspire, and connect our people, you’ll help drive our company culture, too. <br /><br />Our ideal candidate has a strategic mindset and is a stellar communicator (written, verbal, preso) who can distill complex ideas into clear, impactful stories.<br /><br />This role reports to our Head of Communications and is located in the San Francisco Bay Area. </p> <h2><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES</strong></h2> <ul> <li><strong>Play a lead role in developing and implementing strategies</strong> to inform, engage, and inspire employees about Benchling’s mission, work, and culture</li> <li><strong>Partner with leaders </strong>to communicate clear, motivating priorities and surface employee stories that celebrate their impact</li> <li><strong>Convert strategies into clear, compelling, consistent messages and stories</strong> that bring our key initiatives to life</li> <li><strong>Support our executive leadership team</strong> in running company-wide meetings and making announcements</li> <li><strong>Create and manage an internal communications calendar </strong>that includes content and recommended channels for our biggest moments that matter </li> <li><strong>Manage and elevate our existing internal communications processes and channels</strong> (e.g. Slack, Confluence) in collaboration with our People team and own developing new processes and channels (e.g. all-company newsletter)</li> <li><strong>Use insight and measurement tools</strong> to monitor and improve the effectiveness of our internal communications strategies and channels</li> <li><strong>Handle multiple high-stakes initiatives simultaneously</strong>, ensuring deadlines, logistics, resources, and objectives are rigorously managed</li> </ul> <h2><strong>QUALIFICATIONS</strong></h2> <ul> <li><strong>Been there and done lots of that: </strong>You have 5+ years of experience in internal communications where you’ve worked closely with the executive leadership team and gained a deep appreciation for organizational behavior and design. Experience as a Chief of Staff, project leader, or in events and operations (global scale preferred) is a plus.</li> <li><strong>Allergic to corporate speak: </strong>You love synthesizing important information about a fast-growing business and turning complicated concepts into memorable messages.</li> <li><strong>Plays internal communications like a team sport: </strong>You’re a trusted listener who builds relationships across the company, reflects employee perspectives, and helps leaders strengthen communication and culture. You’re highly collaborative, resourceful, and you’re data-driven, not ego-driven.</li> <li><strong>Cultural historian and creative systems builder: </strong>You collect company artifacts, connect dots across people and processes, and build programs that make work feel more human and more connected.</li> <li><strong>Handles sensitive information with discretion: </strong>You know when to write, when to speak, and when to hold back, balancing transparency and trust.</li> <li><strong>Thrives in ambiguity: </strong>You’re comfortable navigating change, solving new problems, and keeping things moving even without perfect information.</li> <li><strong>Takes the driver’s seat so projects arrive on time and in style: </strong>You’ve shown you can collaborate cross-functionally, set priorities, and drive multiple projects simultaneously from start to finish.</li> <li><strong>Experiments with the latest and greatest tech:</strong> You play with AI for writing, images, and video, and find fun ways to bring stories to life across formats.</li> <li><strong>Design chops: </strong>You have creative skills like photography, video production, or visual design to make comms more engaging. Preferred but not required.</li> </ul> <h2>HOW WE WORK</h2> <p>We offer a flexible hybrid work arrangement that prioritizes in-office collaboration. Employees are expected to be on-site 3 days per week (Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday).</p> <h2>SALARY RANGE</h2> <p>Benchling takes a market-based approach to pay.  The candidates starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, interview performance, and work location. For this role the base salary range is <span>$131,108 to $177,382</span>.
