What youll do<ul><li>Drive design system projects end‑to‑end—from technical design and implementation through launch and steady‑state operations—and onboard, mentor, and uplift contributors and maintainers</li></ul><ul><li>Build high‑performing, reusable UI foundations (tokens, components, patterns) that are fast, accessible, testable, and scalable</li><li>Plan, design, and ship platform capabilities (theming, styling standards, ESLint rules, codemods, AI‑assisted scaffolding/codegen) that raise quality and consistency at scale for nearly every frontend engineer at Atlassian.</li><li>Collaborate closely with engineers, designers, and platform leads to turn pain points into ergonomic system APIs, guidelines, and tooling for internal teams and ecosystem partners</li><li>Lead cross‑org migrations, upgrades, and deprecations with clear governance—RFCs, versioning, release notes, guardrails—and take on complex, cross‑repo fixes</li><li>Instrument adoption, performance, and quality with analytics, and use insights to drive compliance and continuous improvement across products</li></ul> Your background<ul><li>Ideally, you’ve worked in design systems and applied AI before.</li><li>Experience with Javascript (ES6), HTML5, CSS and experience with modern Javascript frameworks (e.g., React, AngularJS, Vue).</li></ul><ul><li>Bachelors or Masters degree (preferably a Computer Science degree or equivalent experience).</li></ul><ul><li>Understanding of modern frontend ecosystem, including but not limited to bundling, linting, testing and releasing.</li></ul><ul><li>Extensive experience with modern testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, Cypress, Mocha, Chai).</li></ul><ul><li>Strong comfortability with the JavaScript language and ecosystem.</li></ul><ul><li>Experience building frontend applications at scale.</li></ul><ul><li>Experience in Agile software development methodologies.</li></ul><ul><li>You strive to write code that lasts for years, not months.</li></ul><ul><li>Experience engineering software systems of medium-to-large scope and complexity.</li></ul><ul><li>Experience mentoring more junior engineers.</li></ul>Our perks &amp; benefitsAtlassian offers a variety of perks and benefits to support you, your family and to help you engage with your local community.
