As part of our 30-year remit to manage and improve the capital’s orbital motorway network, we deliver major improvement projects, such as widening 38 miles of the M25, refurbishing tunnels and bridges, and installing hundreds of variable messaging signs and gantries, helping to maximise the use of the network and deliver more reliable journeys.Your purpose:Providing expert technical support to the design team across the various portfolios (principally Structures but also Highways, Ancillaries and Improvements) to enable the cost-effective design and buildable solutions to maintain or improve the M25 highways asset to the standards agreed and considering the needs of key stakeholders.Deliver the outcomes agreed with the National Highways and Connect Plus DBFO Co. to programme and budget, and to meet CPS quality standards.To review documentation, from internal and external designers and to assist in communication between design, asset and PM teams and other organisations (NH SES).What you can bring:<ul><li>Providing expert technical support to the design team across the various portfolios (principally Structures but also Highways, Ancillaries and Improvements), to:<ul><li>Enable the cost-effective design and buildable solutions to maintain or improve the M25 highways asset to the standards agreed and considering the needs of key stakeholders.</li><li>Deliver the outcomes agreed with National Highways and Connect Plus DBFO Co. to programme and budget, and to meet CPS quality standards.</li><li>Undertake and manage optioneering and feasibility of design solutions and preparation of whole life costing.</li></ul></li><li>Undertake the checking, review and approval of design briefs and instructions, contract documentation, design deliverables, technical reports, to ensure they are complete and compliant prior submission e.g. to National Highways through the Review Process.</li><li>Undertake the Delegated signatory responsibilities in signing certification.</li><li>Provide advice on the Design Review Process (Certification).</li><li>Ensure that all designs meet the quality standards required by the DBFO contract and CPS internal standards.</li><li>Provide professional and technical leadership and mentoring in civil engineering.</li><li>Support liaison with National Highways (SES) on technical issues and submissions.</li><li>Liaise internally with other teams within Connect Plus (CP) and CPS as required.</li><li>Liaise with all statutory bodies/authorities as required – such as Highway Authorities, Planning Authorities and statutory undertakers.</li><li>Lead innovation and continual improvement in the delivery of schemes and techniques used in design and construction.</li><li>Support the development of in-house design capability and continuous improvement of processes and deliverables.</li><li>Support the capturing of learning and best practice from the project with the aim of sharing it across the business.</li><li>Deputise for the Engineering Manager and Portfolio Leads as required.</li><li>Live the Connect Plus Services Values.</li><li>Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm, and Safety by Design.</li><li>Ensure the Principal Designer and delegated duties are met under CDM.</li><li>Support the delivery of the business’ Sustainability activities.</li><li>Attend relevant community Forums to represent the Engineering Design team.</li></ul>Qualifications/ skills/ experience:Essential:<ul><li>Relevant vocational qualifications (MEng/MSc/BEng/BSc/HNC and HND).</li><li>Registered with the Engineering Council to CEng level and Membership of an appropriate professional institution (ICE, IStructE or IHT).</li><li>40 hours of CPD in last 12 months including 20 related to highway engineering.</li><li>Competent in Highway Structural Design and Assessment.</li><li>Knowledge of CDM and other H&amp;S legislation and related processes.</li><li>Competent in exercising the Designer’s duties and the Principal Designer duties under CDM.</li><li>Broad understanding of environmental requirements of highway schemes.</li><li>Broad knowledge of Quality Management and IMS.</li><li>Knowledge of the use of computer design applications.</li><li>Excellent IT Skills relevant to Civil Engineering Design and Microsoft Office is essential.</li><li>Knowledge of design and assessment standards (DMRB / MCHW /Eurocodes etc.) relevant to structures.</li><li>Knowledge of National Highways approvals procedures.</li><li>Knowledge of structural design analysis.</li><li>Knowledge or good awareness of multiple highway engineering disciplines (Pavements, Barriers, Drainage).</li></ul>Why work for AtkinsRéalis?Our Transportation teams are reinventing transport for a challenging yet exciting future.
