How will you make an impact in this role with Enterprise Cloud Engineering organization?
Responsible for contacting clients with overdue accounts to secure the settlement of the account. Also they do preventive work to avoid future overdues with accounts that have a high exposure.

American Express is embarking on an exciting Hybrid Cloud transformation journey and is in search of an innovative and critical thinking engineers to build our Hybrid Cloud Platform. This group is nimble and creative with the power to shape our technology and product roadmap. You will contribute to a rock star start-up engineering team which will deliver the next generation auto-scaled, Highly Available, hybrid cloud enterprise application platform (PaaS) for the mission critical delivery transformation, modernization and M&A initiatives.
This position is part of the Enterprise Cloud foundation Engineering team. In this Senior Engineering Manager role, you will be responsible for leading a talented team of Colleagues and Contractors who are responsible for building scalable, secure, and highly available Cloud foundational Services in OnPrem and Public Clouds to enable Cloud platforms like Enterprise Datalake, GenAI, PaaS, and DBaaS.
Your primary responsibilities will be to manage and lead the development of Cloud Services to enhance the developer experience ithin our American Express Hybrid Cloud platform, with a focus on people leadership, architecture, fully DevSecOps lifecycle. Driving and improving Level 3 engineering support and customer consultancy for all the team’s services make up the additional responsibilities of this role.
Minimum Qualifications
Technical Leadership
- Experience in building highly available and scalable Cloud offerings that will be consumed by applications running in our GCP Public Cloud environment.
- You are a subject matter expert on our Public Cloud integration and services for AWS, GCP and Azure
- Having a deep understanding of Public Cloud Principles and container-based platforms like GKE, Docker, Kubernetes, and Redhat Openshift to support our customer’s use of Cloud Services.
- Drive the tools and automation to get best developer experience for cloud service consumption.
- Strong technical background to make informed decisions, guide teams and challenge technical approaches.
- Drive M&A integration and adaption in Public Clouds
- Perform hands-on evaluations before we scale up the adoption of cloud platforms/tools to high-risk apps
- Ability to break down complex technical concepts into something understandable for non-technical stakeholders.
- Develop automation to bring visibility and control around cloud resources to enable effective Cloud Cost Management
- Using Data to inform decisions and staying grounded in facts.
- Drive design and delivery of enterprise tools integration into Hybrid foundations like Compute, Network, Storage, Observability, ITSM, etc.
Leadership
- People Leader to Cloud foundations Engineering scrum teams, including B30 colleagues and contractors, dotted line leadership to B35 colleagues in scrum team(s).
- Promote, empower, and practice servant-leadership.
- Drives the team’s technical improvements and roadmap.
- Strategic mindset to align the engineering team’s goals with Company’s long-term goals
- Keeps an eye on industry trends and encourages forward-thinking and continuous improvement.
- Prioritizes projects that yield most value for the Organization while considering technical debt and scalability.
- Encourages diverse viewpoints and creates culture where all voices are heard and valued.
- Takes accountability for the technical maturity of the team.
- Mentor and guide team members to success; identify strengths and areas for growth in direct reports and guides them to grow in their careers while being more productive on the team
- Nurture an environment of continuous engineering improvement through mentoring, feedback, and metrics
- Working with Engineering Director to hire top talent for the team
Preferred Qualifications
- Overall 10+ years of Technology industry experience with 3-5 Years of Public Cloud engineering experience
- 5 + years of experience with Infrastructure automation tools Terraform, Sentinel and GCP native deployment and policy system, with a focus on IaC and immutable infrastructure
- 5+ years of experience in one of major programming languages– Java, Ruby, Python, Go in automating cloud infrastructure.
- Strong experience on GCP architecture, cloud fundamentals on compute, network, storage, and security to ensure high availability while ensuring the highest level of security, compliance, and visibility
- Experience working within an Agile led team for rapid and continuous development of products.
- Expertise in Cloud native services at a very large scale with high availability and Disaster Recovery implementations
- Experience in building self-service products with infrastructure automation tools and framework
- Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Splunk, ELK, Dynatrace, Stack driver, cloud watch and cloud trail
- Strong working knowledge of virtualization management in VMware and infra automation using VMware API’s
- Experience in enabling cloud service catalog and cost management
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent work experience
- Passion for People Leadership, engineering mentorship and team growth
- Passion for learning new technologies, particularly in the cloud computing infrastructure area.
- Hybrid (private to public) cloud integration experience and certifications are highly preferred
Salary Range: $110,000.00 to $190,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
