The Global Risk & Compliance Organization (GRC) is an independent risk management function, led by the Chief Risk Officer, with the objective of ensuring that American Express operates in a safe, sound, and fully compliant manner with all applicable regulatory expectations. GRC creates and maintains the overall risk management framework, performs independent risk management assessments, and monitors applicable risks.

The Compliance Risk Management team facilitates and monitors the implementation of effective compliance risk management programs throughout the organization, and oversees risk ownership throughout business units, products, and processes.
The objective of Compliance Risk Management Governance team is to develop, oversee and strengthen the organization’s Compliance Risk Management framework to ensure that governance structures, policies, and procedures are robust, effective, and align with regulatory requirements and best practices. The Audit & Regulatory Engagement team supports the Compliance Risk Management internal and external exams and audits, ensures timely closure of findings, and educates partners with an examiner and regulator mindset. The Audit & Regulatory Engagement Analyst will play a key role in supporting the Compliance Risk Management Program (CRMP) by coordinating and managing regulatory examinations, internal audits, and other CRMP-related reviews. This role will report to a Senior Manager and will work closely with Compliance, Regulatory Exam Lifecycle Management, US Regulatory Relations, and Operational Risk stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate responses to regulatory requests, identify areas for process improvements, and enhance the organizations regulatory readiness.
Responsibilities:
- Regulatory Exam & Audit Coordination: Support the end-to-end management of regulatory exams and internal audits, including tracking requests, gathering documentation, and ensuring timely responses and that significant risks and issues are appropriate and escalated in a timely manner.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Liaise with internal teams, including Legal, Risk, and Business Units, to ensure alignment and completeness of exam and audit responses.
- Issue Tracking & Resolution: Monitor and track regulatory and audit findings, ensuring appropriate remediation plans are developed and executed.
- Process Improvement & Readiness: Assist in enhancing exam and audit management processes, identifying areas for improvement, and supporting ongoing CRMP enhancements.
- Regulatory & Compliance Monitoring: Stay informed of regulatory developments and industry best practices to help strengthen compliance risk management practices.

- Critical thinking: Analyzes complex situations, identifies patterns and draws meaningful conclusions to perform logical and well-structured evaluations.
- Documentation: Develops and maintains practices and reporting to enable accurate and thorough records of risk management activities, supporting accountability and traceability throughout the risk management process.
- Risk culture awareness and development: Influences and helps embed a strong risk-aware culture throughout the organization, encouraging proactive risk management behaviors at all levels.
- Compliance risk management / program: Develops, implements, or assesses strategies, programs, policies, procedures and risk limits to manage the organization’s exposure to Compliance risk, so decisions align with the institution’s risk appetite, mitigate the risk of regulatory non-compliance and consumer harm, maintain alignment with peer practices, and meet legal, regulatory requirements and supervisory expectations and commitments.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree or 1-3 years professional experience. Experience in any of the following a plus: operational or compliance risk management, government agency/regulator, or audit functions.
- Proven capacity to engage effectively with all levels of management and foster strong relationships.
- Demonstrated experience and competency in the assessment of risks and controls.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated integrity, innovation, teamwork, and excellence.
- Ability to break down a complex problem into components, solve them by potentially using data analysis, process knowledge and risk/control knowledge, and communicate data analysis, issues and control recommendations with transparency and integrity.
- Excellent storytelling and visualization skills, with interest in working with data, interpreting results, analytic best practices and experience with data analytics tools and data visualization is a plus.
- Self-starter and independent thinker with strong critical reasoning skills and the ability to navigate ambiguity with confidence.
- Strong skills with Microsoft Office products including Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple and often conflicting priorities under tight timeframes.
- Experience supporting risk exam management processes and/or project management a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant audit and compliance professional certification (Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) etc.)
- Advanced degree in Accounting, or another related field.
- Proficiency in Tableau, Microsoft Access, SQL, Power BI, Python, SAS, Hive and/or Spark is a plus.
Salary Range: $55,000.00 to $105,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
