- Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience.
- 12+ Years experience leading corporate community engagement, workforce development, economic development practitioner, site selection consulting, or similar experience.
- Juris Doctorate, Master’s Degree, or other Advanced Degree preferred.
- Experience dealing with corporate business leaders, high level government officials, and external stakeholders, to include public policy and/or government affairs experience.
- Experience with data center development, or other high tech or advanced manufacturing critical facility infrastructure development.
- Experience in the corporate cross functional environments including, but not limited to legal, real estate, facilities, PR, finance, etc.
- Experience working closely with third-party vendors, contractors, and advisors.
- Significant experience in managing large economic development projects. Preferably mega project delivery (e.g. permitting, construction, incentives, concessions, and agreements).
- Experience supporting economic and fiscal impact analyses with the ability to effectively articulate the unique and positive impacts of economic development projects.
- Demonstrated track record of success in developing successful partnerships with all levels of economic development agencies, governments, and other public and private stakeholder groups.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills including experience in public speaking.
- Ability to travel globally on a recurring basis.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $245,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Are you a talented professional with experience in external affairs and corporate stakeholder engagement? Are you passionate about crafting, leading, and delivering high impact engagement programs while building strong and durable relationships with political, workforce, and economic development stakeholders?
Our team works with AWS leadership and subject matter expert (SME) teams from across the business to realize the AWS global expansion strategy and we are looking for our newest team member. This role will lead our West Coast external affairs and community engagement portfolio as an individual contributor, while serving as a mentor and resource across the broader Economic Development team.
Our team is a part of the AWS Global Public Policy organization and we work seamlessly with our internal infrastructure customers, public policy teammates, and our colleagues from across Amazon to build collaborative partnerships in our host communities.
The ideal candidate will exhibit a deep understanding and competency in the global data center landscape, AWS data centers, local political engagement, corporate community engagement (strategy, programming, and execution), educational programming, economic and workforce development. The ideal candidate will travel across the region to engage with key partners, lead, and deliver localized programming.
This role requires an inventive leader who uses high judgement to deliver results and operational excellence in highly ambiguous environments.
Key job responsibilities
Building enduring and trusted relationships with key local stakeholder groups in our host states and communities.
Effectively communicate the scope and benefits of AWS investments to external stakeholders at all levels, disciplines, and via varied modalities.
Develop strategic engagement plan that supports expansion and incentive procurement.
Exhibit ownership of tailored but scalable engagement programs and plans to include the mechanisms to manage multiple efforts across the region while also coordinating and communicating internally.
Seamlessly align across internal customers, to include peer economic development teammates, as well as AWS real estate, legal, tax, finance, and PR teams, among others.
Work in support of and in collaboration with teammates to craft and facilitate local engagement programs and events for educational and work force development programs.
Leverage local relationships with key stakeholders to support emerging and in-flight expansions projects.
Excellent organizational skills and strong written and verbal communication with bar raising attention to detail.
Work independently in a constantly changing and often ambiguous environment exhibiting high judgement.
