• Advanced degree / Master’s Degree (Math, Statistics, Engineering, Science, Business) from an accredited university.
• Experience leading an operational organization in a global environment, responsible for an overall team of 300+ employees.
• Experience leading Infrastructure Operations, ideally with expertise in Cloud, as well as Networking and Systems Design.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills both remotely and face to face.
• Proven evidence of success in operational management, operational enhancement and operational change.
• Experience of managing and developing two levels of management and their direct reports.
• Good knowledge of employment law and HR policies and procedures.
• Proven coaching and leadership skills including evidence of successful succession planning models.
• People and performance management experience.
• A proven track record of implementing, delivering large projects and communicating effectively at executive level.
• EU citizenship and residency required.
• MBA from a top tier Business School.
• Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Experience working in a global team environment with multiple time zones.
• Ability to handle changing priorities and use good judgment when working in stressful situations.
• Decisive, confident, and experienced in influencing others.
• An understanding of Lean and Six Sigma.
• Deep knowledge in continuous improvement methods such as Kaizen, Lean, DMAIC, etc.

The AWS Managed Operations (MO) organization was founded in April 2023, with the objective to reduce operational load and toil through long-term engineering projects. MO is building the best-in-class engineering and operations team that will own the day-to-day operations for AWS Regions; improving the availability, reliability, latency, performance and efficiency to operate AWS regions.
Currently, we are looking for a senior executive to join us as the Director Managed Operations for the AWS European Sovereign Cloud region which is launching in 2025. The AWS European Sovereign Cloud is a new, independent cloud for Europe, designed to help public sector organizations and customers in highly regulated industries meet their evolving sovereignty needs. The AWS European Sovereign Cloud will provide customers the capability to meet stringent operational autonomy and data residency requirements. The Region will be operated by EU personnel, located in the EU.
Key job responsibilities
The role is the single threaded leader for Managed Operations in the European Sovereign Cloud region. The role works to set and execute the strategic vision for operations teams in collaboration with product, sales, tech organizations and service teams.
The role requires a detailed understanding of and ability to drive critical aspects of operations, including Infrastructure Operations, Enterprise Support, DevOps, Systems Design.
The leader in this role should be customer obsessed who can balance long-term support vision with short-term customer needs.
The role will lead strategic initiatives and provide support to operation teams across EU countries.
In addition to ensuring operational excellence internally, the Director will have externally-facing responsibilities as an escalations leader, trusted advisor to current and prospective customers on managed operations queries, and a focal point for regulators and auditors.
