We are excited to post the following vacancy for a European Surgical Glaucoma Trainer to help drive our ongoing market expansion plans. This remote position can be based anywhere in Europe however we have a strong preference for the candidate to be based in Spain or France.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with Surgical Glaucoma Country Heads and other Surgical Glaucoma trainers in the region to support the launch and commercialization efforts of Alcon’s surgical glaucoma franchise in Europe in collaboration with strategies that will be defined by the European Commercial Director of Surgical Glaucoma. This will entail training new hires into the Alcon surgical glaucoma team around Europe and will also entail training key glaucoma KOLs in new markets.

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Accountable to be able to train surgeons on Alcon surgical glaucoma portfolio

  • To achieve advanced level (‘ACT’) qualification in order to then be able to train and sign off Alcon staff for independent surgeon training on Alcon surgical glaucoma portfolio

  • Work closely with Region Glaucoma head to devise and execute country level strategies to achieve commercial and people objectives

  • Attend national and international congresses in order to provide booth and wetlab support to commercial teams for major events

  • Manage training needs of new hires with high emotional intelligence in order to support country manager objectives to motivate and drive team performance

  • Provide ongoing surgical coaching and mentorship to surgical glaucoma specialist (sales team) members to drive surgical/product/disease area skills and high performance in conjunction with country managers

  • Full compliance with Alcon business practices

  • Follow trends and publications in the MIGS Industry and share with region head/management colleagues as appropriate in order to maintain up to date disease area knowledge of all Alcon EU stakeholders

  • As part of a wider international team, an incredible ability to learn and collaborate with individuals from different backgrounds and cultures offering the chance to leverage exceptional talent throughout the Alcon business

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO ALCON:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of directly related experience

  • Solid experience in a surgical sales or surgical training environment is essential

  • Experience in Ophthalmology (Cataract > Glaucoma > MIGS is highly desirable)

  • Experience in working on an international level with different cultures is desirable but not essential

  • Very high technical aptitude to be able to take on, understand and present highly technical scientific data to customers and colleagues

  • Very high emotional intelligence

  • A true team player with significant skills in cross-functional matrix organisations

  • Highly organised with high attention to detail

  • Highly adaptable / flexible both to internal and external changing business environment

  • Strong ‘customer’ focus (both internal and external)

  • Ability to build strong relationships with country KOLs

  • Fluency in English (verbal and written) is essential in addition to local language (Spanish and/or French) as you will be training team members and surgeons across multiple countries where English will be the common language; additional languages would be very advantageous

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – written, oral and when presenting
