This is where the <strong>Development Infrastructure and Testing</strong> team comes in.</p> <p>As part of the broader Engineering Effectiveness initiative, this team provides the foundational tools and platforms that power engineering productivity at Abnormal—from secure, reproducible builds and dev environments, to streamlined CI/CD, to automation and metrics for scalable testing.</p> <p>We’re looking for an <strong>Engineering Manager</strong> to lead this team at the heart of the developer experience. This role will oversee the <strong>Development Platform Infrastructure (PI)</strong> and influence the formation of <strong>Testing Automation Platform (TAP)</strong> . You’ll be responsible for scaling the internal platforms that enable all engineers at Abnormal to build, test, and deploy software confidently, consistently, and quickly.</p> <h2>What You Will Do</h2> <ul> <li><strong>Lead and grow a team of engineers</strong> focused on development environments, build tooling, CI/CD infrastructure, and automated testing platforms.</li> <li><strong>Define and execute the roadmap</strong> for platform services that make engineers more productive—including Bazel-based builds, secure base images, GitHub Actions workflows, and automated PR validation.</li> <li><strong>Collaborate cross-functionally</strong> with SRE, Core Platform, Security, and Product Engineering teams to ensure platform primitives meet the reliability, security, and performance needs of the organization.</li> <li><strong>Drive reliability and standardization</strong> of development workflows—from laptop provisioning and IDE setup to artifact generation and vulnerability scanning.</li> <li><strong>Promote a data-driven culture</strong> by enabling collection and analysis of engineering process metrics (e.g., PR latency, build performance, test failure rates).</li> <li><strong>Create a healthy team culture</strong> through coaching, growth planning, and inclusive hiring. Foster technical excellence, collaboration, and psychological safety.</li> <li><strong>Own team execution and delivery</strong>, balancing urgent company-wide priorities with long-term investments in developer infrastructure.</li> </ul> <h2>Must Haves</h2> <ul> <li>2+ years of experience as an <strong>Engineering Manager</strong>, leading teams focused on internal tools, CI/CD infrastructure, developer productivity, or testing frameworks.</li> <li>5+ years of hands-on engineering experience with backend systems or developer platforms (e.g., Bazel, GitHub Actions, Docker, artifact repositories, cloud infrastructure).</li> <li>Proven ability to deliver cross-cutting platform projects and scale internal offerings.</li> <li>Strong written and verbal communication skills to align with stakeholders and guide team direction.</li> <li>Passion for improving engineering effectiveness and building tools engineers love.</li> </ul> <h2><strong>Nice to Have</strong></h2> <ul> <li>Experience building <strong>testing frameworks, pipelines</strong>, or PR validation systems (e.g., pytest, merge queues, smoke/load testing).</li> <li>Knowledge of <strong>build reproducibility, image hardening</strong>, or containerization best practices.</li> <li>Experience managing internal <strong>developer-facing tools</strong> such as IDE plugins, developer onboarding automation, or local environment provisioning.</li> <li>Experience with <strong>data pipelines</strong> and internal observability for engineering workflows.<br /><br /></li> </ul> <h2>What Success Looks Like</h2> <ul> <li>Engineers experience near-zero friction in development, CI/CD, and testing workflows.</li> <li>Build and test failures are rare, and when they happen, recovery is fast and obvious.</li> <li>PRs are reviewed and merged quickly, reliably, and with confidence.</li> <li>Development infrastructure is stable, secure, and largely invisible to the end user.</li> <li>Engineering decisions are increasingly informed by high-quality metrics and automation.</li> <li>The team has a clear, evolving roadmap and is a model of engineering excellence and reliability.</li> </ul> <p> </p> <p>#LI-ML1</p><div><div><div><hr /> <p><br />At Abnormal AI, certain roles are eligible for a bonus, restricted stock units (RSUs), and benefits.
