We are seeking an experienced Intellectual Property Counsel to join our legal team with a focus on intellectual property litigation (primarily defensive) and intellectual property prosecution. This role will also provide support for general litigation and pre-litigation matters as needed. The successful candidate will play a critical role in safeguarding 8x8’s innovations and defending its market leadership in cloud communications, in addition to providing practical, business-focused legal advice. The role is fully remote in most of the states in the US.Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Manage and oversee intellectual property litigation, with an emphasis on defensive matters. </li><li>Develop and implement litigation strategies in coordination with outside counsel.</li><li>Handle all aspects of IP litigation, including discovery, motion practice, trial preparation, and settlement negotiations.</li><li>Manage patent, trademark, and copyright prosecution activities, including maintaining and growing the company’s IP portfolio.</li><li>Oversee responses to office actions, oppositions, and cancellations.</li><li>Advise internal stakeholders on IP enforcement and defense strategies.</li><li>Provide general litigation support for commercial and corporate disputes.</li><li>Collaborate with cross-functional teams on enforcement issues, dispute resolution, and related matters.</li><li>Collaborate with privacy, security, compliance, and commercial legal colleagues to scale support and align risk management on intellectual property and open source matters.</li></ul><h3>Qualifications</h3><ul><li>Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.</li><li>Admission to at least one U.S. state bar; eligibility to practice in-house.</li><li>6+ years of experience in intellectual property litigation and prosecution, preferably in both law firm and in-house environments.</li><li>Strong background in general litigation.</li><li>Experience managing outside counsel and litigation budgets.</li><li>Excellent legal research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.</li><li>Strong written and verbal communication skills.</li><li>Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and work effectively with global business stakeholders.  </li></ul><h3>Preferred Skills</h3><ul><li>Experience in the technology, software, or telecommunications industries.</li><li>Background in patent and trademark portfolio management.</li><li>Familiarity with international IP matters.</li><li>Expertise in privacy/data protection, telecommunications, consumer law, and/or AI/ML regulation.</li><li>Familiarity with AI-related legal frameworks and ethical considerations.  </li></ul>The compensation range reflects the Company’s good faith belief at the time of posting. 8x8 has different base pay ranges for different work locations within the United States, which allows us to pay employees competitively and consistently in different geographic markets. The range above reflects the potential base pay across the U.S. for this role; the applicable base pay range will depend on what ultimately is determined to be the candidate’s primary work location.
