About Target:
Working at Target means helping all families discover the joy of everyday life. We bring that vision to life through our values and culture. Learn more about Target here.
Target UX is a group of design, content, research, and accessibility practitioners and experts, with a passion for improving and innovating our digital experiences for Target’s guests, team members, and partners. Here, we pride ourselves on designing tangible, inspiring, and impactful solutions that serve all aspects of our business– and being a part of the team means you will play a critical role for Target’s digital experience by increasing ease, simplicity, value, and delight for every touchpoint.
About the role:
As a Lead Product Designer within our Guest Experience team, your mission is to deliver best-in-class digital shopping experiences for our guests by leveraging and developing frameworks for UX sprints (i.e., discovery, co-creation, future-visioning) and delivering both functional proof of concepts and in-market launches in partnership with product, engineering, and other cross-functional peers and leaders. In this role, you will focus on deeply understanding the human need, changes in consumer trend and behavior, business opportunity, and Target’s brand potential to develop actionable, multi-horizon strategies for a small portfolio of new experiences. You will bring meaningful guest journeys and experiences to life by thinking holistically, pragmatically, and through the lens of innovation while setting a high bar for craft and quality.
You understand guest needs, omni-channel retail, and the role that UX plays in driving engagement, loyalty, delight, and trust while delivering business results. You are proactive, curious, ask questions, and are driven to connect the dots. You will use human-centered design thinking, service design, and tried-and-true design craft principles to understand and prioritize guest needs, co-develop near and long-term design strategies, and deliver a best-in-class guest experience for Target. You are an excellent story-teller, skilled at explaining design recommendations to non-design stakeholders, and are comfortable utilizing data and insights to advocate for the human need, while interfacing with multiple levels of executive leadership including Directors, Senior Directors, and VPs when needed.
Responsibilities:
Develop and contribute to UX strategy and vision for product experiences across digital platforms – influencing investment, collaborations, and the balance of new vs. Iteration
Lead UX sprints for discovery, co-creation, future-visioning, and functional proof of concept delivery for emerging experiences in partnership with product, engineering, and other cross-functional peers and leaders
Investigate new opportunities using both qualitative and quantitative research methods
and deliver artifacts leveraging design strategy and service design methods — such as journey maps, service design blueprints, and storyboards
Align internal stakeholders, accelerate experimentation, and enable us to innovate more rapidly while scaling UX learnings and best-practices across teams
Create deliverables representative of both exploratory and go-to-market design phases – such as wireframes, user flows, UI design, and prototypes
Guide design process and mentor junior designers
Hold design work to a high standard of craft, including accessibility, user research, information architecture, interaction design, visual design, and service design
Advance a culture of human-centered practice within UX, product, and engineering teams
Build a network of relationships to enable your vision in service of our guest experience and Target as a whole
About you:
7+ years experience as a senior or lead product designer with a strong portfolio showcasing successful product and service design work
You thrive at the intersection of design strategy, scaled solutions, and craft
Expert skills in UX, product, and service design, as well as structuring and planning work, and owning the design process
Advanced expertise in design strategy and service design methods (i.e., co-creation sprints)
Advanced proficiency in product design and prototyping tools (i.e., in Figma)
Advanced strategic problem-solving, systems thinking, and collaboration skills
Proven ability to effectively use data and insights to set your direction and communicate your approach
You balance the need for near-term solutions and long-term vision
You are an expert in communicating how design connects to, serves, and improves business outcomes
Exhibit a growth mindset
